Rudeus disappoints me again...

When the previous episode came out the author made a tweet to clarify how Rudeus views slavery: “Regarding Rudeus, He doesn’t really have a strong aversion to slavery. He feels like not all slaves are necessarily more unhappy than they were before becoming slaves, so while kidnapping is evil, it doesn’t seem that the slavery system itself can be definitively called evil. It feels like I shouldn’t brandish my own sense of justice in a culture I’m not familiar with.” After this he received a lot of criticism as many took this as his own opinion haha. Add to this that Rudeus being locked up in his room for so many years took refuge in various things including light novels, in most of these stories slavery is always present and somehow he might have "gotten used to it" but I'm just guessing. Although obviously wrong, somehow I think I can understand the "I shouldn't brandish my own sense of justice in a culture I'm not familiar with" thing. The world in which this story takes place is fucked up, it's one where it's normal to kidnap people and then sell them, polygamy is allowed, infidelities are not considered so serious, the culture is completely different so I can understand that what Rudeus did to the beast girls didn't seem so serious to them and Sylphy. Now some details to note from this episode: - When the battle started Pursena was about to scream but Rudeus stopped her. she was about to use the ability Gyes used to paralyze Rudeus when she thought he was a kidnapper too, Rudeus learned from that time and stopped it from happening again. - The reason the girls were wet was because they were locked in there all day, apparently Rudeus forgot they were supposed to go to the bathroom, that's why they are without their underwear while Sylphy was washing them. Great reaction. Edit: I should clarify that I am not giving my opinion on these issues, I am trying to imply how I interpret the positions of fictional characters on these issues.

Linia and Pursena pissed on themselves (they were restrained for the whole day...), that's why Rudeus and Sylphy washed their underwears.

I think they've done a bad job of portraying Rudeus' inner thoughts in these few episodes.

Thanks for the extensive clarifications man! Oh yeah I think that's a valid way for the author to explain Rudeus' thoughts. I'm not really the type to get offended , certainly not by something fictional in the first place, but I think even in real life many people forget about the different moral standards across regions in the world. For example, as a European, who am I to tell the Middle East why their laws and morals are "bad"? I may not agree with much of it, but if I was visiting there I'd respect their culture and that they simply view the world differently. So I totally understand Rudeus in this case.

Remember they are Beast-kin. Their culture is different from ours and the humans in this world. Typically the strongest in the pack is the Alpha(Boss). Linia and Pursena act like they own the place because no one can beat them. Rudy then demolishes them in combat. At that point they would've already submitted to him to some extent. You could also see this when Rudy groped Pursena, she whined a bit, but seemed surprised when he stopped. She expected worse at that point(Doesn't make what he did ok). What sealed the deal was what they thought was a punishment of being left tied up, starving, and wetting themselves. Rudy didn't intend for this, of course. You'll also notice they were submissive towards Rudy, but as soon as Fitz tried to tell them off they snap back. Only after Rudy has Fitz punish them, do they submit to Fitz as well. It's similar to when Gyes and Rudy's prison guard rolled over on their backs and exposed their bellies to Rudy in apology for his false imprisonment. They are animal-like in some capacities and this dynamic which would be unnerving in our society, isn't "wrong" in the Beast-kin's culture.
