I'm always happy to see a season finale leave on a satisfying note, even if there are clearly still plenty of directions for the story to go and questions to be answered...

First off congratulations on completing the the first Season of Re:Zero. As you mentioned this is is a great place to finish off the season, and for your information, Re:Zero wasn't really anticipated to be such a major hit, particularly in the west. This is a major reason why it took 4 years for Season 2 to air, since nothing was setup at the end to continue working on the anime. As for the general length of Re:Zero, Season 3 won't be the end, nor will it be that close. The author has planned 11 or 12 arcs for Re:Zero and currently he is in the middle of writing arc 8, so there will be Re:Zero for decades to come (probably since the series prints money). I want to include a quote from the novels from that last scene. "There had been repeated tribulation and despair continuing for a very long time. Having overcome these, they had finally earned a quiet, tranquil time for them alone. This was a tale about earning that time, and nothing more. This was a tale about missed opportunities, continuing along different paths, remaining lost, and nothing more. Everything had happened so that a single insecure boy could share his feelings with a single insecure girl. This was a tale of striving to do exactly that one thing, and nothing more." This I think best sums up the essence of Re:Zero. That it's not about the time looping, torture, despair and all, but about the moments of peace and the relationship between Subaru and Emilia. Many of the people who dislike Re:Zero I think comes from this, where they're more focused on the time looping and how to do things the best and don't really care about the characters, or their journey, and thus get disappointed when the story doesn't revolve around abusing RBD (not that I think you're among these people, just that I usually find this to be the case when people don't like it). Some other things I want to mention is that when Subaru says "Rental Goa" that's actually a legit spell, since "Al" is a valid prefix for spells, and "Goa" is the basic fire spell. The other thing I want to bring your attention to is Petalguese's comments about Satella. "I haven't forgotten a single moment of the things [Satella] did for me! Even if you've forgotten, I'll... I'll... With all of my diligence, I'll part with my slothful self, to repay your love...". This reminds me of Subaru in Episode 13 with the argument with Emilia. Basically just claiming that the reasons why he does things is because of something that someone doesn't remember anymore. I can't really talk too much more about this without getting into side story stuff, but there are a lot of parallels to Subaru's character in other characters if you're on the lookout for them. It's really makes me appreciate the author of Re:Zero for how nuanced some of these minor characters are.
