What a way to catch us up on Canute's story! It's once again a testament to how natural the writing in this show feels. Where we could reunite with Thorfinn several years later without needing to know much about what happened inbetween, Vinland Saga explains to us some of how Canute (re)gained dominance over England. Oh, and Thorkell is back! How could I not be happy about that?

The show didn't make it clear in this episode, but in the manga it felt more clear. The events that happened in this episode (around 3 years) are in parallel to the Thorfinn and Einar in the farm, it's not a flash back. The end of last episode it showed Canute still as a prince standing in front of the graves, that was at the same evening that Thorfinn and Einar had their talk.

Ohh okay yeah I guess I didn't interpret it correctly then! I wonder if that means we're gonna get a timeskip for Thorfinn and Einar next episode then, unless Canute's angle won't really tie in with them yet
