Man, great nostalgia hit, thanks for this reaction. My favourites will always be 5 and 1, from 6 onwards I've hardly watched them though as it covers the part of the big bunch of fillers towards the end of the show. I think Pokemon is considered a "kodomo" anime (for kids) and Naruto "Shounen" (for teenagers) although I could be wrong about Pokemon.

My favorites are 4, 6, 7, and 8. 4 so much so that I can still recite the lyrics even before I started rewatching recently. And it's funny but in North America the first opening was never shown they replaced it with a different song and visuals.

Actually fair point btw, I hadnt considered that a lot of people will not feel too fondly about some of the later OP's because of the massive filler sequence at the end

What you're going to do with fillers? Try watching few and decide then? The original Naruto series has most of the fillers at the end of the series, just a few fillers in between "normal" episodes. But Naruto Shippuuden has the filler arcs more scattered around, thankfully there's Anime Filler List website, that has complete filler episodes listed, it can help with skipping if you want to do so. I remember watching Naruto and Naruto Shippuuden as it was released, and taking breaks every time I ran into a filler episode/arc and occasionally checking if the fillers stopped. I just couldn't watch the fillers, haha. There's also fan made compilation of the episodes (called Naruto Kai), that skip lot of the pointless content in the episodes, that were added just to make episodes longer. Anime creators had to pace themselves, so they wouldn't catch up to the manga, and that's the reason for fillers and episodes where very little progress happens. As for the openings, I'd say my favorites are 2, 1, 5, 3 (in that order). And a special mention for opening 4, as that was the point I caught up to the releases and begun following the series weekly. Damn that's ~20 years ago. 😅 And now is the first longer pause since beginning of Naruto when they haven't released any weekly episodes (paused since march last year).

I will probably put up some polls and ask people what they think. Judging by what I've heard from you though I'm guessing literally all of the marked filler episodes are best skipped then? Are there no arcs or episodes worth watching?

I hear there are few good filler arcs in Shippuuden, but I'll have to admit that I've only watched 2-3 arcs in whole and maybe one was entertaining. But there's also chance of me misremembering some good filler arcs as canon, because the usual filler you'll recognize as filler in the first 5 minutes. Some of those "good fillers" are also the ones listed as Anime canon episodes. They have characters that will never appear in the manga, but may have more appearances later in the anime as side stories. Also the fillers at the end of this first series are really bad in my opinion, they're basically episodes with overblown humor attempts, no character or story development and clear low budget effort. As they basically can't make up anything that would break the manga storyline.

Man, watching this actually made me quite emotional. I still have a few of these songs on my playlist to this day, but listening to this while watching the visuals as well was very nostalgic. These songs, and the visuals are like ingrained in my brain lol. I think I started watching Naruto in like 2007, man how time flies...
