Mr. Writhms

So you know, Dawn... The movie crew did not kill that bull. There was a celebration at a nearby village where a tribe killed the steer for a feast. The movie crew just happened to film it and included it in the movie. This was in the documentary "Heart of Darkness", the making of "Apocalypse Now".

Well I knew, and I think most guys here knew, that this would be a tough watch for you. You never have to see it again. Weirdest ever? Hmmm... It's weird but I know several considerably weirder movies. This is considered a classic war movie now. The shots/cinematography, cast, directing and acting are spot on but the material is really dark and sometimes hard to follow too. Speaking only from hearsay, I'll say that Vietnam was one of the most f***ed up wars in all history. And what did it accomplish? Get to one of those happy comedies quick! p.s. You know that Willard was played by Charlie Sheen's father Martin, right? I also noticed you identified Harrison Ford by his voice. "Turn around I need to see your face" lol. Robert Duvall played the napalm-loving surf-Colonel. Clean was played by a young Lawrence Fishburne. These are all actors you've either already seen or will see again as you go. Can't remember any others offhand so I'll end this here. I always end up writing essays lol. Thanks for the reaction and just for being you!

I didn't expect you to like the movie for the content. "Apocalypse Now” is hailed as one of the greatest movies ever made because of the performances and the technical mastery. All those battle scenes were all done practical. All those sets were built for real—no green screen effects. It was a landmark achievement in filmmaking. The documentary of the making of this movie is a great movie in itself. No one LIKES to see war and dead children and human carnage (at least sane people). It’s the ART of the film is why this movie is so well admired. Watching this movie is not about "liking" what happened in Vietnam. It's about this masterpiece of music, lighting, acting, cinematography, and Francis Ford Coppola's directing-- that almost drove him insane making it. Please see the documentary "Heart of Darkness". You will appreciate this movie more, I think. Or at least understand why it's drawn so much acclaim. Harrison Ford wasn’t a big star yet when he made this movie. While filming in 1976, "Star Wars" had not been released yet. But did you notice, his name tag on his military shirt said “Lucas”? Though I did not share your opinion, I enjoyed your reaction just the same.👍

Bartleby

I don’t think that makes her feel any better about witnessing an actual cow really be slaughtered. LOL

Mr. Writhms

I wasn't trying to make her feel better about it. I just didn't want to her to think Francis Ford Coppola was a monster that would kill an animal for a movie.

Richard

R. Ermey, who played the drill instructor in Full Metal Jacket, has a brief scene in the movie. Originally hired as a technical advisor, Coppola used him as one of the helicopter pilots for Kilgore.

So there were a few actors in this film you’ve seen before on the channel Dawn. You didn’t notice any of them because you spent the first half of he movie trying to figure out if the main character was Marlon Brando or not. LOL Honestly that’s why I think it’s better for you just to go into a movie totally blind. So you don’t go in with preconceptions and are focused on those rather than what’s actually happening on the screen. So the main character was played by Martin Sheen. The father of Charlie Sheen. The young black kid on the boat was a teenage Lawrence Fishburne. He grew up to play Neo’s mentor Morpheus in The Matrix. He also she’s up as the homeless bird man in the John Wick movies. There were two actors in this movie who were both in John Wayne’s True Grit. The character Kilgore, the cowboy hat wearing colonel who wanted his boys surfing was played by Robert Duvall. He was the main villain at the very end of True Grit and he also played the families attorney in The Godfather. And the hippie photojournalist at the end in Kurtz’s camp was Dennis Hopper. He was in True Grit. The cowboy who was going to cooperate with John Wayne before his partner killed him so he couldn’t talk. Hopper had the very dramatic death scene in that movie. Hopper was also the mad bomber in Speed. And Harrison Ford was not a star at the time. He had just done Star Wars and that was it. At least of note. There’s no reason for him to have any more prominent of a role. And if you want to see a young sexy Marlon Brando in his prime, go back to some black and white classics. “A Streetcar Named Desire” (1951) “The Wild One” (1953) “On the Waterfront” (1954)

Dawn I have no doubt this will be a particularly popular video. Everyone values your honest opinion of the film which is why I think it will be a high view count. I remember I didn't really like the movie when I was a kid (mainly because of the cow scene) but I did like "Full Metal Jacket" a bit more, but over the years it has grown on me a bit the first third of the film is very watchable but it gets a lot darker as the film progresses , which is most of the point seeing it comes from the original source material of Joseph Conrad's novel "Heart of Darkness" but after reading the book I kind of got the point of what the director was trying to achieve. But overall I really enjoyed watching the movie with you it's great fun seeing a fresh perspective on this very much a "boys movie" . As always great video xxx love kisses and snuggles me xxx
