Growing up, my grandmother's house in upstate New York (near Canada) had secret rooms to hide runaway slaves, behind kitchen cabinets, little corridors between walls, etc... Was eerie to sit in those rooms, smell the wood, and think about the folks who had passed through 100 years before in desperation, so that my grandmother might one day own a house.

The civil war is one of my favorite documentaries of all time and solidified my love of History. Later in college I got a degree in history and wish I could use it more. If you would like to learn more about black history during February, I can recommend the documentary eyes on the prize. It is a great documentary about the civil Rights movement.
