Movie Run Time: 2:21:37

You will need your own copy of the movie to watch along! 😁

Be honest, how long did it take you to realise there were no aliens? 🤦🏼‍♀️

Another space movie that you would like is Passengers with Chris Pratt and Jennifer Lawrence.

Dawn, other than the storm at the beginning blowing Whatney away,(the air is too thin for that kind of force) this movie got kudos for trying to be very realistic with the science they presented. Mat Damon's portrayal was amazing.

Hi Dawn, fun to rewatch this with you. To answer some of your questions: There are dust storms on Mars (and even ones that are global about every 5 1/2 Earth Years) but due to the atmospheric conditions, none would be as severe as depicted in the film but it needed a reason to strand Damon on Mars and aside from that element, most space experts seem to agree they get most of the science right. A Martian day is only about 40 minutes longer than our own but a year on Mars is about 687 Earth days. Pathfinder is the NASA lander that arrived on Mars in July 1997, and then deployed a rover named Sojourner. The Chinese subtitles you were missing told us that the Chinese space agency was going to help using a booster rocket NASA didn’t know existed because it was classified. The crew had to pick up supplies from it when they used Earth as a slingshot so they would have enough supplies to extend their space mission to go get Damon. And Matt Damon is 5’ 10” tall. 🙂 As for more Matt Damon, I recommend Good Will Hunting (he and Ben Affleck Star in it and won Oscar for best screenplay and Robin Williams won Best Supporting Actor). Also, the Bourne trilogy is a good set of spy thrillers.

The Bourne Trilogy was top notch. Damon surprised a lot of people and we get a great list of actors in supporting roles throughout.

I cannot believe you don’t like ABBA. They are incredible. Also, in the beginning they had to go outside during the storm. They were in a building and they needed to go outside to get to the ship to takeoff.

Matt Damon and Greg Kinnear as co-joined twins in "Stuck on You" (2003). This is as far from "The Martian" as you can get.

oh you figured it out, that's good! 😊 I'm watching it in the background now while I work on the computer... (Edit) you can get to space in probably 15 years. When Starship is working it should reduce the cost by 10x then later by another 10x? Let's see, it says space tourism costs $250K to $500K per person and so if it's reduced by 10x it would cost $25,000 to 50K... and if it could be further reduced maybe 10 years later... it could become like a very expensive airline ticket.

SpaceX's Starship should probably be working in a year, then give them 5 years to do missions and then they can set their sights on visiting Mars in 3033 maybe even with just robots. Let's say NASA gets to the moon in 2027, a version of Starship would be crewed by then. Then give them time for more experience and to get the cost down and by 2038 Dawn could maybe visit space... 15 years from now.
