Another 1969 western for you to see Dawn! “The Wild Bunch” This stars neither John Wayne or Clint Eastwood. It does however star someone you were introduced to in another film not long ago. Hint, it was a Best Movie Ever!! This is a classic and important western in the history of westerns.

This is my favorite western, and one of my top five favorite movies. I grew up watching this on repeat with my dad, and it's so perfect--from the dialogue, to the acting, to the balance between serious and comedy; it's marvelous. There's a sequel to it called Rooster Cogburn (1975) starring John Wayne and Katharine Hepburn. That's also a very good movie, with the same humor and high spirits. I think you'd enjoy it a lot. I'm in the minority believing that the 2010 remake is vastly inferior to the original film (despite being more book accurate) and I think you'll find it lacks a lof of what you enjoyed in the John Wayne version. But I'd still recommend watching it after the Rooster Cogburn sequel so you can have the full perspective.

You can still visit the Courthouse and the jail at Ft Smith, AR. The McAlister store is gone but the city of McAlister OK grow up around it. If the snake pit is to be the location known outlaws went to hide out at is then it is only 10 miles from my front door now a state park called Robbers State Park.

Roger Freeman

The horse salesman was Strother Martin. He was the short sidekick of Liberty Valance. The one John Wayne kicked in the face at the restaurant. He's also in the sequel Rooster Cogburn. Plays a totally different character. He's in my favorite hockey movie with Paul Newman, Slapshot

Corndodger: cornmeal, pork fat, salt, and water. fried in cast iron skillet.

Yes, I hate to say (I prefer originals) it but the remake is at least as good maybe better.

William

The remake is OK, but no way as good as this film

I beg to differ sir, like the old timey saying goes, it's in "The Eyes of the Beholder"

Thank you for doing this movie. One of John Wayne’s best (whom I’m named after) he won his Oscar for it. Stroher Martin (who Maddie challenged with) was in my favorite Western, THE WILD BUNCH (which I hope you will see, ironically, John Wayne hated that movie) , not many people appreciate John Wayne these days, but he accepted many people, regardless of their political positions. I also hope you will watch more of Woody Allen’s films. I will send you some of his films via Amazon UK if possible. I also hope you will watch Clint Eastwood’ OUTLAW JOSEY WALES, and DIRTY HARRY.

LOL, I'm so dumb, thought it was the recent True Grit. Got the wrong one to watch along.
