Dawn, you will likely get inundated with this info but Blithe didn’t actually die of the wounds as the show advised. Blithe went on and served in Korea but died in 1967 in Germany from a perforated ulcer, while on active duty having never retired from the military. His family apparently called into HBO after the show aired to let them know (I think some versions of the show now include a correction to acknowledge this) and every reaction to the series will have people point out what was unfortunately and unintentionally inaccurate. They get it right for the most part, and every interview/panel I’ve watched with the cast and crew relays the true passion and commitment everyone had to get it right and to honor these men.

a powerful part of this series is showing how instant, sudden and without warning, death and devastating injury is in the reality of war. My grand went though the while want from the start and saw his share of battle. I remember him sating, mortars held a particular dread, as he put it "you could hear them but they can come down anywhere"
