Gosh what great timing. Let's all commemorate the 79th anniversary of the Allied landing at Normandy and never forget what these real-life heroes did for us all.

Jeremy Vickers

So happy you are doing this show fantastic reaction!

Liam Christie

The "tracer" effect of the bullets shot are what you saw - an effect of "tracer ammunition" which was developed in 1915 (there were earlier versions for cannonballs). Its a good way to track your own bullets to assist in aim correction. Also - superb reaction. Really loved this series, and I forgot how harrowing it was.

Watching a reaction to the D-Day episode on June 6th, well timed and as Michael said above, let’s never forget what these men did. And Dawn, the item Winters pulled from his pants was a compass to help him determine where they were on the map he was looking at by flashlight (under a raincoat to avoid the light potentially giving away their position).

MertzRocks

With the little 'clickers', they don't have to say "flash" and "thunder. One click is "flash" and two is "thunder", essentially. Sign and counter-sign. Remember, the Airborne division was new. These men were the best. They had to be because their objectives would almost always be behind enemy lines, therefore they knew they would almost always be surrounded by the enemy once they landed. They were well-trained to deal with that too. This will come up again later but... no spoilers.

David Bennett

Another great reaction, Dawn....hope that you are mentally preparing for the rough road ahead, it will be worth the watch, I promise. I'm american and I can tell you that if you have the funds, you can get combat training pretty close to what military people get, in large part because it is often times, former military people DOING the training. I'm looking to get some firearms training AND some survival training. It looks like my country is crumbling around me and sooner or later, I genuinely believe that I will need it. The guns that you were comparing to playstation guns are called flak guns, and they are anti aircraft weapons. Lt Winters was awarded the 2nd highest decoration for bravery that the army has for the assault on Brecourt. When Guarnere said the comment about Mennonites, he was referring to a sect of christianity that rejects a LOT of modern day tech. They ride around in horse drawn buggies and use basically 17th century technology and tools to go about their business.

Dave Thomas

squad weapons, like machine guns or anti-aircraft guns would load phospherous rounds..that would light up like that so the gunners could see where their shots were going...when you see "Tracer" rounds like that, ..you are only seeing one out of ten or twenty shots fired...

Roger Freeman

The attack on the 4 guns at Brecourt Manor was part of the 1st Call Of Duty game. I think you're remembering Defender video game. They were using tracer rounds. That's why it looked like a video game. Tracer rounds were visible so you could adjust your fire to hit moving targets. The entire movie The Longest Day is about this 1 day. That movie has John Wayne, Henry Fonda and half of Hollywood in it. Great movie. My biggest fear would be my parachute dropping me into a fire

Hi Dawn, I’m enjoying your reactions to Band of Brothers! Just to give a little context to this episode. This is the same Day (D-Day) as Tom Hanks landing at Omaha Beach in Saving Private Ryan. The 4 guns that Winters and his men took down were firing at the beach where the Allied forces were landing. Except these particular guns were firing on Utah Beach. Tom Hanks was landing at Omaha Beach. Private Ryan was also an Airborne soldier. Except he was in Baker Company. This is the story of Easy Company. Easy Company’s objective was to land behind the German defenses and attack them from behind. Weakening them. Making way for all the landing troops and equipment at the Normandy beaches. Looking forward to watching the rest of the series with you!
