Sean Connery was Scottish. Malone was Irish. Sean Connery just doesn't do accents. Prohibition lasted from 1920 to 1933. It was enacted to improve public morality and health. It was repealed due to the increase in criminality.

Really fun video Dawn! The music composer is the Legendary Ennio Morricone. Another iconic classic gangster picture from this director, Brian De Palma, “Scarface” (1983) And Scarface actually does star Al Pacino. Al Capone is one of the most notorious gangsters of all time. The scene with the baseball bat at the dinner party. That really did happen as depicted. Another phenomenal Kevin Coster film, “JFK” (1991) Another great Robert Deniro film “Cape Fear” (1991) And an extraordinary Andy Garcia film, “For Greater Glory” (2012)

Well Dawn, welcome to the era of gangsters in the USA! Prohibition lasted from 1920-1933 when there was a big move to stem domestic violence, etc. With liquor illegal criminal organizations took over the production and sale of it, with Al Capone running things in Chicago. He and Elliot Ness were real people but the rest of the story was highly fictionalized. There was never a meeting between them, and Ness never pushed anyone off a roof top! Kevin Costner's most famous role was in Dances With Wolves (1990). So many famous roles for Sean Connery starting with him being the original James Bond starting in 1962. I liked him as the sub commander in The Hunt for Red October (1990), Al Pacino became famous for a starring role in The Godfather (1972) and Godfather II (1974) but has made over 50 films. Thankyou for a fun Sunday evening at the movies!

On December 5, 1933, the 21st Amendment was ratified, as announced in this proclamation from President Franklin D. Roosevelt. The 21st Amendment repealed the 18th Amendment of January 16, 1919, ending the increasingly unpopular nationwide prohibition of alcohol. Frank Nitti was a real member of Capone's organization but never did any of the things the character in this movie does, INCUDING die from being pushed off a roof. Sean Connery's character, Jimmy Malone, was loosely based on FBI agent Michael Malone but was a Chicago police officer in the film.

Will be watching this after work, 5 hours to go! Will be excellent content, dinner and a movie! Did not dissapoint at all. I love the dynamics of the team, especially the wee guy with the shotgun on the bridge. The fact he didn't die there was a miracle hahaha. Still though, imagine Prohibition here, nae whisky makes a sad dawn.

Awesome, I loved your reaction as I always do. The film is loosely based on the book of the same name (1957) and the real-life events it was based on, but most of its plot is fictionalized. Connery was playing an Irish-American character. The Untouchables was indeed spoofed in Naked Gun 33 1/3: The Final Insult (1994). Frank's daydream at the beginning of Naked Gun is a parody of the shootout scene at the train station. The Prohibition era was a period in the United States from 1920 to 1933 during which a nationwide constitutional law prohibiting the production, importation, transportation, and sale of alcoholic beverages was enacted. The alcohol industry was curtailed by a succession of state legislatures and finally ended nationwide under the Eighteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution, ratified on January 16, 1919. Prohibition ended with the ratification of the Twenty-first Amendment, which repealed the Eighteenth Amendment on December 5, 1933. Alphonse Gabriel Capone, sometimes known by the nickname "Scarface", was an American gangster and businessman who attained notoriety during the Prohibition era as the co-founder and boss of the Chicago Outfit. His seven-year reign as a crime boss ended when he went to prison at the age of 33. Capone was sent to Atlanta U.S. Penitentiary in May 1932. Upon his arrival in Atlanta, Capone was officially diagnosed with syphilis and gonorrhoea. He was also experiencing withdrawal symptoms from cocaine addiction. Due to his failing health, Capone was released from prison on November 16, 1939. He died in January 1947 of a heart attack, one day after suffering a stroke. Elliot Ness never accepted a bribe in his career and later in life had serious money problems. He also developed a serious drinking problem. He died on May 16 1957.
