Hey Dawn. So this movie is a remake of a Japanese film from director Akira Kurosawa, called “Seven Samurai”. And Fistful of Dollars is also a remake of a Japanese film from the same director called “Yojimbo” If and when you dip your toes into foreign language films, these seem natural for you to check out. Though in my opinion, a better film from this director Kurosawa, is his 1950 film “Rashomon” A strange and powerful film.

Super reaction, Dawn. I love this movie so much, I used to watch it with my Father when I was a kid. Most of his favourite actors are in this, and they become mine too. You were correct, "Riding shotgun" was a phrase used to describe the bodyguard who rides alongside a stagecoach driver, typically armed with a break-action shotgun, called a coach gun, to ward off bandits or hostile Native Americans. In modern use, it refers to the practice of sitting alongside the driver in a moving vehicle. There is a sci-fi version of this story called Battle Beyond the Stars (1980). Akira Kurosawa (director of The Seven Samurai) was so impressed with this western remake, that he sent director John Sturges a ceremonial sword as a gift. The horse that Yul Brynner (Chris) was riding was Pie, the same one that James Stewart rode in all or most of his westerns. Steve McQueen, James Coburn and Charles Bronson all appeared together again in John Sturge's next film The Great Escape (1963). The Complete Magnificent Seven: 1. The Magnificent Seven (1960) 2. Return of the Seven (1966) 3. Guns of the Magnificent Seven (1969) 4. The Magnificent Seven Ride! (1972) 5. The Magnificent Seven (TV Series 1998–2000) 6. The Magnificent Seven (2016 Remake)
