Another great reaction. Thanks, Dawn. I suggested this last year so I'm glad you reacted to it. Others have probably answered your questions already but I still like to comment anyway. When male recruits arrive at military boot camp, they receive what is called an “induction” or “buzz” haircut. The initial purpose of wearing short hair was to enhance cleanliness among service members. In addition to personal hygiene benefits, the military buzz cut has had the following effects: • Standardization of military look for troops • Adherence to regulations • Increased individual and unit discipline during military training • Sense of uniformity, equality, and cohesion among recruits • Hair cut to the same length all over for easy care and management • Professional and unified image for troops in uniform • Spirit of Tradition • Reduced risk of hair being caught by weapons, helmets, masks, and/or enemy troops After basic training, they are allowed a choice of military-approved styles. PT stands for Physical Training. The Marine Corps basic training lasts for 13 weeks and is the longest training period among the US Military Services. Gunnery Sergeant Hartman was played by R. Lee Ermey. He served in the United States Marine Corps from 1961 – 1972. He served in Vietnam and later in his career became a drill instructor and turned to acting after leaving the military. He was basically playing himself in this movie. He has been in many movies and had a role in Seven (1995) as the Police Captain and an uncredited appearance in Naked Gun 33 1/3 (1994). In the scene where the bodies are covered with lime, it is a commonly held belief that lime can be used to enhance the speed of decay, to reduce the likelihood of detecting a body, to destroy evidence and that ultimately lime will lead to the rapid and total destruction of human remains. The Colonel in this scene that was asking Joker about his peace symbol and the Born to Kill slogan on his helmet was played by Bruce Boa. He played General Rieekan in The Empire Strikes Back (1980) and wanted a Waldorf salad in Fawlty Towers.
