Movie Run Time: 1:34:22

You will need your own copy of the show to watch along! 😁

So here it is, the joint-winner of the Hit the Decade poll, and replacement for Dr Strangelove. I can certainly relate to Navin, that's for sure 🤣

The guy suing Navin was the Director of the film, Carl Reiner, an absolute legend. The cat juggler was Steve Martin himself. Mabel King, who played Navin’s mother was a Broadway legend.

I don't remember all the jokes you didn't get but when Marie says she's a cosmetologist and Navin asks how she handles the weightlessness, think cosmonaut. As for Airplane 2, you may find it funny, but in my opinion, really not worth it. Once again, really enjoyed the reaction. Things are so much funnier watching along with you. You do love the shifty eyes.

Great reaction! Planes, Trains and Automobiles would be a timely watch, as it is set at Thanksgiving which is celebrated in late November in the U.S. and in a few other countries. Steve Martin and John Candy are both great in it

This was new for me. It is a great bonus to see movies for the first time with you. I really enjoyed it. I'm with you in regard to Dr. Strangelove. I was never a fan of Peter Sellers except for The Pink Panther movies. Steve Martin wrote the part of Marie with Bernadette Peters in mind. They were in a personal relationship at the time. This was the first of two films that Steve Martin and Bernadette Peters made together. The second was Pennies from Heaven (1981). The Jerk was the first of four films that actor Steve Martin made with director Carl Reiner. The other movies are All of Me (1984), The Man with Two Brains (1983), and Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid (1982). The scene where Navin has just climbed out of the tub and is reading the goodbye letter from Marie and the ink smears from the bath water so that it's unreadable is an allusion to the scene in the film Casablanca where Rick is reading Ilsa's goodbye letter at the train station in the rain and that letter's ink is smeared by the rainwater. The Jerk had a television film sequel, The Jerk, Too (1984), starring Mark Blankfield as Navin and co-starring Stacey Nelkin. It was produced, but not written, by Steve Martin. Airplane II: The Sequel is not as good as the first but still worth a watch, in my opinion.

I really enjoyed watching Steve Martin I think he's brilliant! The father of the Bride movies I would watch over and over again when I was wee because he was just so hilarious! Airplane 2 I'll absolutely watch at some point 😁
