Yes, that was a real bruise from sliding into a base during filiming. OUCH!! The little dot of white on Tom Hanks's face seen several times in the movie was a scrap of toilet paper, used to blot a nick from shaving and stop it bleeding. Usually, a person who cares about his appearance will remove it before venturing out into public, but this is Jimmy Dugan, after all. He didn't so much care. Many of the older women playing baseball at the end were members of the real-life AAGPBL (All-American Girls Professional Baseball League). The place where they held their reunion was Cooperstown, NY, home of the National Baseball Hall of Fame, which includes members from the real-life league, similar to the way the fictional players were depicted in the film as inductees.

BTW, when this won the poll, I found that this film was on offer as a FREE selection on YouTube (and with my Premium subscription, ad-free so it would have kept in sync very well). Unfortunately, this being the 1st of the month, YouTube withdrew it from the FREE selections. Yesterday, it was still free. Today, not. Just ONE DAY LATER! (Frustrating.) I was tempted to watch the edited version, since I had seen the whole film free a few days ago, but I'm glad I rented it to watch full length, since as it turns out, this is one of my favorite reactions that I've seen on your channel, so I'm glad I took in the full-length experience. !! BEST REACTION EVER!!
