Natural Born Killers started out as a script being written by Clarence in the film True Romance. This element was removed by Tarantino for the sake of length and instead developed as a script all its own by him. Tarantino sold the scripts for True Romance and Natural Born Killers Oliver Stone took the story into the completely mad, experimental, and hallucinatory direction which was not anything Tarantino ever envisioned. Tarantino even incensed that anyone would rewrite anything he had done. Which is ridiculous because the only film he had done at that point was Reservoir Dogs. Tarantino claims to never have watched the film from beginning to end. He whined and cried about this for the longest time till the day he happen to meet Johnny Cash in an elevator by chance. Cash recognized him and told him how much he liked his films, especially Natural Born Killers. This made Tarantino come to terms with the film and he has made peace with Oliver Stone since.
