happy December, babes <3 Ghost Lights is close to its 2 year anniversary and it makes me glad I came so far with it. the other part of me is like I ALREADY DREW 2 YEARS ON IT?? AND THERE'S STILL SO MUCH TO TELL omg

I don't have much to show right now unfortunately, but please accept these two random sketches of Noah 🌻🦌 there's a new Lion King movie coming out, and I remembered the part where Nala was giving Simba bedroom eyes, and I just wanted to sketch Noah like that, too... he's giving Robin that playful look! Once I get to that part of their past, I'm able to show playful banter and Noah's really energetic personality and just Robin getting overwhelmed by cuteness.

but for now, back to the present: in the next scene(s) Noah and Robin are going to have a serious conversation with each other and I need to fix the dialogue and the writing a bit. the thing is that, yeah, Ghost Lights exists for 2 years now!!! But this means the writing is like almost 3 years old, and we all change and we all improve over time and because of this I have to revise the scenes that are going to happen soon-ish all the time, every time again.

i usually become real quiet on patreon when i do that because it can take days for me to come up with a solution when i encounter a small problem or just something i don't really like anymore. sometimes i just rewrite the whole part to make it better 😭 aahhh. i always work on the story, but the writing progress is pretty invisible to my readers. It's a big part of my work that happens completely behind the scenes.

sometimes i receive snarky comments like "why did you only post 6 pages, what took you so long?" and it's like... hey. only 6 pages full of drawn panels, lore, information, dialogue. i think that's a lot. I just want to ask them "Do you know how hard drawing and writing is?" But they won't understand how hard any of it is, so I will just roll my eyes and vent to you guys here sjdfh i apologize. drawing a comic is hard, but writing is just as hard. i wish some people would recognize that those are both essentials of a comic and that they go hand in hand.

I'm sure some of you came across webcomics that are cancelled or currently on hiatus and their reason was something like "i need to fix the writing" or "i need to fix the drawings"? It happens pretty often that comic creators who both draw and write end up in a situation where they can't continue if the elements don't work together anymore. It's very very understandable from a creator POV. i'm a bit afraid this will happen to me, but the thing that helps me greatly with pushing through is that i can work in my own pace and fix stuff along the way. thank you for giving me the opportunity to do that. 💘

i started rambling (or is this more a love letter to writing and drawing? because i love to do both). just wanted to make sure you guys know that I'm working on it~ I'm just brooding about how they will say things to each other. But luckily I'm almost done with it and i plan to start sketching the next pages later today or tomorrow 💕

ps. in case someone hasn't received an e-mail about their order yet, i'm trying to send everything off until the end of the week <3 thank you for being so patient ; ; ily

First offfffff! NOAH IS SO PRECIOUS!! Secondly!! Take your time!! I never like seeing a writer/artist under pressure 😞 cuz you should be able to mold and create this story to your liking!!! Not to other people impatience! Hope their badgering isn’t toooo much!

We support you on patreon because of your dedication to your art, dedication takes time! I'd rather wait for something really special than read something that has no thought put into it, fans of good content are willing to wait for quality work :) Also I received my copy of volume I and I thought the little packet of stickers and hand-written note was such a cute touch! Thank you for your continued good work!

Writing and drawing is really hard work! It's a lot of doing something and then re-doing it again and again until it finally feels right and that could take soooo much time. Not to mention we don't always feel inspired to create, which makes it even harder.. We appreciate all the hard work you put in this comic very much and understand the difficulties of creating it, especially at the amazing level that you give us. Thank you for giving us this incredible comic it's really the best comic I've ever read, both in the writing and the great art ❤️

thank you cutie <3 luckily most of my readers - you guys included - are super patient and tell me to take my time with it ; _; i'm really really grateful that so many value the story and that they'd rather wait longer. people who demand faster updates are a bit entitled and i usually just link them to my patreon and tell them that they could support me here if they wanted to read more or if they REALLY wanted the story to progress faster, but surprisingly they come up with all kinds of wild reasons why they could never be my patron and suddenly fast updates aren't that important anymore ✨

i'm so thankful to have you!! if i had to work under contract with a publishing platform i'd have really harsh deadlines, and like this i can just... really put everything into it and concentrate on small details and give the characters the depth they deserve <3 and oh, i'm so glad to hear your parcel arrived safely 🦌💕 so happy you like it, too! thank you

you put it so well ;; yes that's exactly how it goes, sometimes it's just rewriting one sentence 10 times and it still doesn't feel right. but when it does, it's really satisfying~ i'm so glad you understand and appreciate it, it means so much to me and i just feel safe taking my time thanks to you! thank you so much <3 and i'm really touched that you love it so much i wanna cry a bit (good tears only) ; _; i'm highly motivated to draw the next scene now since earlier i finished fixing the writing and sorted it out <3

Don’t worry about it, mate. I looked at one of my older scenes the other day and immediately wanted to edit or change some of the lines. There’s nothing innately wrong with that desire: it just needs to be fulfilled at the right time. If it helps, take a moment to look at what you’ve received praise for—for instance, those wonderful transitions between Noah and Robin in the frames you provide. There’s also a great interview with the author George Saunders that you might like. https://lithub.com/george-saunders-on-the-best-writing-advice-hes-received/ - J
