I remember when my uncle Fred was in the Navy aboard the destroyer U.S.S. Henderson. I think one of its missions was to patrol the Formosa Strait when China was shelling Quemoy and Matsu. I think this was in the late 1950s. I vaguely remember seeing something about it on the TV news at the time. Yes, I am older than dirt. I remember when dirt was invented.

So China is trying to entice the Taiwanese with "tofu dreg" bridges and buildings? I wonder how that's going to work out. Their high-speed transportation is facing bankruptcy. Imagine traveling to an island and half way there the train shuts down over the water. The P.A. announces "We have now reached our final destination. Please exit on the right and swim to your next stop. Have a great day and thank you for traveling with us."
