@BILL , criminals make most of their money from illicit drug trade. Legalize and regulate drugs and the criminals go bankrupt

all that's done in areas where drug possession is legalized is drive crime and violence as drug gangs become even more profitable. where drugs become cheaper you see drug gangs reconsolidate power through violence (less tolerant of competition because of fewer profits to share between all). the main problem with most legalization plans is that its so heavily taxed that illegal drugs remain cheaper at current market prices anyway. in effect, you increase demand for drugs from the cartels since possession charges risk is so low and taxation on legal goods is so high.

Agreed. To regulate it and have it taxed to the point it creates a black market defeats the purpose. Having said that, I couldn't find any stats in Portugal to back your claim
