Taiwan cannot count on the U.S. right now; the American public cannot count on the current leadership and that's across the board within our bureaucracies.

You said, "Despite Japan having occupied Taiwan for 50 years, they can still be friends." Actually, Taiwan is one of the countries very pro-Japan after being occupied by Japan. In other words, among those, China and Koreas are the only countries which are saying bad things about Japan, defaming Japan, making up histories. Hope you can report on those malicious propagandas some other time.

It seems to me that most countries in Asia are moving on from WW2. China wants to stay there for the nationalism. Not sure what the Korean government hopes to gain by continuing their rhetorics. Seems short sighted. I think the Japanese occupation of Korea and China were way more harsh than Taiwan because the former two have established sense of nationalism and pushed back harder. I think it’s quite understandable for China and Korea to dislike Japan after what happened in WW2. The starvation alone is a good enough reason. That being said, it was 80 years ago. Japan apologized, some companies even offered compensations. A reasonable nation should move on.
