Yes, ChiCom hissy-fits are the norm...and imagine after a defeat in invading Taiwan. No one talks about this defeat, but it is the major possibility.

Yes, that's probably why they're still waiting. It will always be a risk for them, but the concern among a lot of military experts is that unless we address what they are doing quickly, they may be able to open a window of maximum likelihood for succeeding. Ultimately this may make them jump the gun and attack when they're not quite ready if they see the US starting to deploy effective countermeasures to their anti-ship and area denial strategy. Hopefully we can either force that, or force them to just give up (deterrence). This is just my own opinion, but I think moving forward the best approach for deterrence is to ditch strategic ambiguity, since it's no long relevant given the current cross-strait balance, enter into a defense agreement with Taiwan while still not recognizing them as a country, and begin deploying whatever may be necessary to neutralize their area-denial capabilities. I'm not a military or weapons expert, so I'm not sure what that is or if we already have it, but the CCP's primary strategy seems to be hypersonic anti-ship missiles, and I'm curious what defenses we have against those.

Chris, in what universe or dimension would the Chinese people, shaped body, mind, and soul by thousands of years of serfdom and subservience, ever - EVER - rebel against ANY oppressive government?!
