It happens sometimes that people in China will get "disappeared," Usually not long after they say or do something critical of the Chinese Communist Party or the government. That's what happened to Zhang Miao, the assistant to reporter Angela Köckritz, the Beijing Correspondent for Die Zeit. After the two reported on Hong Kong's democracy movement during the Umbrella Revolution, Miao was arrested by authorities in Beijing. Thus began a very long, and very futile attempt by Ms. Köckritz to get any kind of justice or information about Miao's whereabouts.
