The context being "former" Count Gloucester gives Claude an ultimatum. Either Hilda is hurt/killed in front of him or Claude gives himself up to him (which by humiliating and deflowering him, Lorenz is secured in becoming the next Federation King despite the fact that Claude says multiple times that after the war, he's passing the title onto Lorenz). He chooses the latter because he thought he had one more scheme he could try but is crushed by the Almyran traitor in his ranks for telling Gloucester said secret. Cue the mind break that goes with the degradation.

The Almyran traitor is a "Shalid sympathizer" but Nader assumed everyone in Almyra hated Shalid given how much crap he put the Almyran army through. It's easy to be a sympathizer when you don't actually go marching with Shalid and just want to get back at Claude's dad.
