The Band of the Hawk did have it easy in the anime! Now you see why they cut this part out. If there is one apostle I absolutely do not like, despise even, its Wyald. I have at least some compassion for some of the other apostles, but this guy is just disgusting! His name is pronounced Why-ald, like wild. The reason you can't remember the Kings name is because he doesn't have one. He is just the King. And really, doesn't deserve a name anyway. I would assume that Griffith doesn't have a dick. Torture wise it's like up there on appendages that get removed that maim a prisoner. So, let's just say he doesn't have one. So on Twitter earlier this year, due to the Elden Ring game, more people started to check out Berserk and they came upon that panel were Wyald and the Black Dogs have torn that family to pieces on pikes. They were outraged. Some individuals even called for the death of Miura. I thought the whole thing was stupid. I mean, they were only 30 yrs too late. Anyway, I bring this up because that scene is paying homage to an even older Manga that was from the 70's. Go Nagai's Devilman. I don't know if you've seen the Netflix version, but this is a scene directly from the manga. I love Go Nagai and if you think there is some crazy shit in Berserk, well, Go Nagai was the grandfather of crazy shit! I've been a fan of his since my early 20's. So, when people were making such a big fuss over this scene, they were really making a fuss over a 40 yr old story that they had never read. Why weren't these guys (apostles) at the eclipse? You will see. Also, other manga worth checking out that is not the usual? Alita Battle Angel (the first 9 books and Mars Chronicles) that is a series not many people read but it's very good. Another one is Banana Fish. The anime for it was very good. For something a bit more introspective and philosophical, Osamu Tezuka's Phoenix. That I consider his masterpiece. Ok, now for something very obscure that I enjoy. Obscure because its old and the manga is like god awful expensive. Iron Fist Kung Fu Boy by Takeshi Maekawa. I have about 6 volumes of it, and I probably won't add to it because of the price. But it is very cute and a sweet story about martial arts. Akira of course. Another adventure story that is old is Kazan by Gaku Miyao. And if you are in the mood for a wacky rom com, Urusei Yatsura by Rumiko Takahashi, is a good pick. Before Ranma, before Inu Yasha was Urusei Yatsura! It's about an alien girl who "marries" an earth boy who is a jerk. Hijinks ensue! I tried to pick titles that not many people would recommend or have forgotten about because they are old. Oh, and Devilman of course!!!
