Tik Tok and Instagram trends!

If any of you AP fans out there get sucked into social media spirals like I do then you probably know that in recent years there has been a LOT on there for us to enjoy - and I'm not just talking about the thrill of seeing the popular girls you went to high school with slowly morph into soccer moms in real-time.

FaceApp dropped onto the scene about 4 years ago now and it's still going pretty strong on Instagram. Just search the #faceAge or #faceappchallenge and you'll find tons of recent results of women daring to use the app to peak into the future.

There was also a recent trend on tiktok for teens to use the faceapp age feature on their face 10 times(!!!) to see what the final result was like. So searching for faceapp on there you'll find a bunch of great videos of quick morphs from youth to extreme old age.

Twitter obviously went wild this last year with morphs and jokes about the "Beach that makes you old" (In reference to the admittedly disappointing film Old last summer) and a search for that phrase will pull up tons of fun stuff - people went wild with it! Especially look back around halloween!

Two of my favorite trends on Instagram right now though are:

1) There's a filter on tiktok and IG called "old_pest" it's not as realistic as the aging from FaceApp but there's a trend where people put the filter on and caption their elderly selves with a year in the future like "in 2072" and then halfway through turn their heads and become young again with the caption "in 2022" all set to the Mark Ronson song 'Nothing Breaks Like a Heart' (featuring Miley Cyrus).

- There is also a version of this where they'll caption their elderly selves as "2022" and then flip back to like "1980" when they become young again halfway through, with the added touch of a retro look reminiscent of Madonna or Cindy Lauper. I think this take is also a lot of fun - but it's wild to me that we're now at the point where teens think of "old people" as being young in the 1980s.

2) There was a trend going on for a while of women born in the 60s, 70s, and 80s posting videos of themselves (with soft filters on to make themselves look younger and sexier) pointing at the year that they were born. So there would be a 41-year-old woman bopping her head and smiling and then pointing at the year '1981' or a 50-year-old woman laying in a bed trying to look hot and poking at a graphic that said '1972'.

What I especially like about this trend is - imagine going back in time and showing these videos to someone in the year 2000! Dozens of frumpy middle-aged women pointing at their DOB that says they should only be 19 years old or 28!

I would love to take a peek at social media in the year 2045 as a flabby-looking MILF points at her DOB as 2003 or a jowly matron with salt and pepper hair has the birth year of 1995 floating above her head.

What AP social media trends are you enjoying? What kind of stuff are you hoping to see on your favorite platform in the future?

I'll post some links to the stuff I referenced here on the discord server. If you don't have the link shoot me a PM and I'll get you on there!
