How's it going? I got to say, it feels great to be working on the game again! Since my injury, I only had about two days to develop and I've only completed two features, but they were relatively complex ones.  I think all things considered, I got a lot done in a short amount of  time.

The reason I'm writing  this devlog early is because tomorrow I'm going to go on a trip for a few days with my girlfriend. I'm looking forward to the trip but I'm also looking forward to working on the game when I get back!

I have some really big news. Nugg, my character artist, has become very  busy and is unable to keep up with the workload. As you may have noticed, about a month has passed and I don't have any completed character artwork to show. Because of this, I am looking for a new character artist to fill in for him. The silver lining is I think this could be a blessing in disguise:

This event gives me an opportunity to change the game in ways I wouldn't have considered unless I could consider redoing the art. For example,  one of the common negative criticisms I get about the game is it's called Monster Girl Farmer, but there are no monster girls in it. Of course, that has always been planned as a temporary problem, but it makes me think, maybe the game should be about Monster Girls instead of humans that transform into Monster Girls. Changing the game in this way would require a bit of rewriting for the story, but I don't think it's significant. On the other hand, I would save significant money on the  artwork costs because I wouldn't have to commission a human form and a  monster girl form for every character. It also simplifies the story and  development in multiple ways. That makes me think it is a step in the right direction.

Keep in mind have a lot of options here and I'm not saying I'm going to take the one I described above. I can have an artist copy the style of the current art without redoing any artwork. The thing I don't like about that is I think it's impossible to completely copy somebody's style, so you'll be able to differentiate between nugg and the new artists artwork. Personally I really dislike that idea, but maybe in this case "best is the enemy of good."

I can also redo all the art and keep the transformation theme in there. For those that really like the transformation theme you should know I never planned for the transformation to be gradual. It was always going to be instantaneous. I know that most people into transformation prefer a gradual transformation.

They're probably other options I haven't even thought of and I'd love to hear your ideas. When I get back from this trip, I think I'm going to have a poll with all of these options on it to help guide me for what I should  do next.

In the meantime,  regardless of which of these options I go with, the refactoring I'm  currently doing still makes perfect sense and is necessary, so I'll  continue working on that. It's almost done by the way, but I'm not 100%  recovered from my injury, so it's hard to say how long it will take with  that variable in the equation.

I hope you're having a wonderful week. It's great to get back to work again!

I don't think you need to match the styles or redo all the art. It never bothers me to have disparate styles in one game

Well, it's obviously not perfect, but I'd rather have more art than have consistent art. Especially in an indie game like this, when the art doesn't match it's easy to look past that, as long as the art is good.

Plus, it gives variety. Sometimes one style gets boring.

Personally I would prefer keeping the girls' human forms, as not everyone is into all types of monster girls. Myself I like mammal types like catgirls and cowgirls, but birdgirls and lizardgirls not so much. Being able to choose which ones use their animal forms and which ones use their human forms would be good.

"Personally I would prefer keeping the girls' human forms, as not everyone is into all types of monster girls. " I second this, but the game is about humans transforming in monster girls in the end so it doesn't really matter if they're just that way from the start. But personally I'd love if you could see them change.

I hear you, but this could double the amount of artwork I need long term and really complicates interactions. e.g., Let's say there's a quest initiated by X but it has you talk to Y, or a sex scene involving X or Y (X and Y being characters in this case). If these characters can transform, some interactions may not make sense. Like, if Mia wants some of Jessie's milk, but Jessie hasn't transformed yet. Dealing with this is what I originally planned, but to reduce scope, I'm considering cutting it and making it a focused monster girl game.

Wild Bill

Well, like I said above I'm not really into dating outside my taxonomic class. Having the girls as monster girls all the time would mean I wouldn't be into some of them I otherwise would, which would be a shame. Being able to ask them which form to take would be worth the work it would take to make it possible, IMO.

AcademyOfFetishes

Although I definitely see the appeal, on a personal level, I don't think it would be worth the effort. Dealing with the complexity it would bring requires so much forethought it's crippling. I think that's what I've been dealing with for the last few months and why I don't have more content by now. The more I think about it, the more effort it feels like. It also seems like going down a path that ends up creating a game that partially appeals to those that like humans, partially those that like monster girls, and partially those that like transformation. In the end, I think it would be a "meh" game for all 3 of those parties. I'd rather focus on one party and make a great game for them than a "meh" game for everyone. Since it doesn't make sense to have humans join your farm, I think I want to make a great monster girl game. :)
