The Sign - Episode 7

Outside of the fact that (with the exception of Last Twilight) most of the BL shows right now are even worse, I personally don’t understand why his show is thought so highly of. I had high hopes for it and the first few episodes were pretty good, but, since then, it’s just gone downhill for me…none so bad as this episode. Apart from part 5 and the beautifully done NC scene, the rest of the parts were standard, if that good. And, WTF, was part 1? I thought I had clicked on the wrong show. For me, there are way too many storylines and characters that seem superfluous to any main plot. Either concentrate on the main leads and their story past and present with maybe one case to solve throughout the show. They might think they’re doing that with the case being the other policeman who died, but it isn’t made clear enough. Also, another BIG problem for me is the actor playing Tharn who is terrible. He has one, maybe two, expressions. The most I’ve seen him emote was in the NC scene. Also, the operatic soundtrack was a horrible choice.

I just saw ep 7........and I admit I wasn't sure what to make of it. Yes it was an ep about love, and how love isn't always enough, and sometimes lovers occasionally have to be separated even though they feel for each other. Which kind of echoes what Tharn and Phaya are going through not only at the moment, but will going through the whole story arc. However, despite the episode echoing this overall arc for Tharn and Phaya, and actually serving to make Tharn and Phaya realise how much they feel for each other, but it seemed a bit odd. Our main cast seemed a little like secondary characters compared to the two characters who had never been in the show before, and I dare bet wont be seen again. It just seemed like an odd way of doing it for me. I know shows often have 'one off' episodes, which this seems to be, and it did show how Tharn's abilities help his team crack cases, so it wasn't bad........simply a bit odd when the show has so much depth to the mythology, past lives, fantasy elements in the present, etc, to be exploring. The way the NC scene at the end was shot between Tharn and Phaya was beautiful though, very well done by both cast and crew. I look forward to seeing what they bring us next week.
