i dont think you're supposed to like the joker at all but you are supposed to sympathize with how much of a shit hand this guy has been dealt in life. phoenix plays a joker that is spawned out of realism and the backstory behind him, i think it is very fitting. I personally loved the dance, i think the 1st time he did it (after killing those 3 people) was actually him finally feeling relevant and his life actually having meaning. Love your content anyways hatman.

I think the film carries the trademark lack of originality and imagination of our culture, even though it seemed some sort of genuine attempt to be what might have been called counter-culture in the 60's, radical in the 70's, or independent in the 80's.  But it doesn't have the talent or confidence to carry it out, it  is hiding behind copying the look of films from the golden era of Hollywood Films, the 70's.  They can visually make it look the same,, but just wheeling out an over-the-hill De Niro, and copying the past, does not a great film make.   That said, I don't think any sort of Batman story is going to be a great film, because it's not a good story or set of characters to start with.  I appreciate many people love The Dark Knight, it is a superior Super-Hero Movie - but really, how good is it??  Personally I never found The Joker an interesting character, he was always unbelievable, and it is great credit to Heath Ledger that he did such a good performance in that character.  I think you are hard pushed to find good art of any sort in the West at the moment - Corporate Control, the move to Monoculture, increasing censorship, etc., etc. I think the dancing, was something like, to show he had a beautiful and poetic soul underneath.  I thought Phoenix did a good job, but the movie just isn't great - a sign of the times.
