first, some quick non-treat news: i mentioned the maiden and overlord plushies were planned for february. this is still planned but i haven't heard back from makeship yet :') i will post when i know the dates... please respond to my emails, makeship......

in other news, i got a new tablet! annoyingly i can't get the brush i use for treat to feel like it used to, so i hope there's not a noticeable difference in the rest of the art i make for this game... we shall see in the coming weeks... my old tablet isnt broken so i can switch back to it if i really need to but i would rather not if i can avoid it...! i think i will just need time to adjust to the new one, and i can't do that if i don't actually use it hahaha.

ANYWAY!! i have been solidly just working on treat things so i have lots to say this week. i'm splitting it into spoiler and no-spoiler summaries so that i can talk about specific things i'm excited about.... let's gooooo!

TREAT TIME!! (spoiler-free section)

chapter 8 part 2 is coming along nicely!!! i'm trying to think of a good way to communicate how much work is left... so i'll just write out the planned sections of the story (vaguely)

  • arriving in agaricus (scripted and basically done, i need to finish some new songs tho)
  • staying in agaricus (tiles are done from the last section so it's just scripting and art assets)
  • visiting [SWAMP]
  • visiting [WHERE TRICK'S MASTER IS!!]

i plan to make a WIP build as soon as the agaricus section is all done. so some of you guys will get to play it soon enough!

i also jumped ahead and made a bunch of progress on BAD END 3. this will be part of the WIP build, but i'm not sure if the full ending will be finished. no progress on bad end 2 yet, but i might at least do a little more for it before the WIP build. we'll see!

the next public update will FOR SURE go to the end of ch8 (i'm NOT splitting it into 3 parts!!!!), and i'm hoping to finish bad ends 2+3. i think if i tried to do bad end 4 it would push back the launch date too far, so i'll probably save that one for the epilogue update.

OK NOW TREAT SPOILER SECTION!!!

wahoo!!! finally we can meet grenadine!!!!!!!

but she doesn't wanna talk to you... that's too bad.

there's a bunch of stuff to interact with before you introduce yourself anyway :) there's a shop, and a witch who's looking for her fairy... and if you saved your coin you can use it at this fountain instead!

a bunch of the npc face art is finished, and there's temp music right now but i'm still fleshing it out. grenadine needs a theme song too. i'm just glad all the tiles are done...!

trick will be stuck in agaricus for a while as phoenix grows up, but after that, grenadine will tell you where to find capillaire, who surely knows where myrrh is. i'm not sure how long the swamp section will be (he lives in a swamp with lots of frogs, i haven't named it yet). but the final section (reuniting with trick's master) will be lots of exposition..... so it should go pretty fast once i get there. i'm really excited for it!!!!!!!! wahh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

on the complete opposite end of the spectrum, the other thing i'm excited for is...

CH6 BAD END........ WAAAAAAAAA

RABBIT!!! BATTLES!!!!!!!!! OMG

this one is a tricky balance, because mochi is like REAL MAD but not just like turned evil or something... it's not like in DATE MOCHI i swear. but she does go and beat everyone up instead of returning to the hot springs to see treat. let's see where that takes her :)

i had to dive into rpgmaker's scripts to make sure it showed unique lines for the battles in this section, because previously salt and pepper were the only ones you could fight. i gotta script a bunch of battle logic to make these fights interesting too... so far i've just finished these two bozos, but you're gonna fight like everyone in this building AND MORE! WAHOO!!!

there are also connections with bad end 1, but i'm gonna save the reveal for when you guys actually play it... IT'S JUICY....... i feel like this bad end stuff adds SO MUCH, and makes you look at the main story in a different light, knowing some of the shit you wouldn't get to see outside of the bad ends...... wow.............. this was my goal when i decided to make them but now that i'm actually here, i'm so THRILLED ABOUT IT!!!!!!!

also i finished the song for this part and... omg... it's so good... i can't stop listening to it. it fits the mood so well. i'll probably post it as a sneak peek next week if nothing else comes up instead...!

i'm like... HUGELY motivated to finish all this stuff so i can share it with everyone. i'm feeling confident i can finish the main story this year and everything <3 TREAT IS HAPPENING... WOW IT FEELS GOOD......

This is what cements you as my absolute favorite game developer, your bad ending are done soo much better than most games, its not an arbitrary consequence because you didnt fine all 500 acorns or something of that nature you have to go out of your way to mess with the flow of events and doing so rewards you with extra lore you wouldnt find out otherwise, treat was already my favorite vn story of all time but seeing bad end 1 made my favorite piece of media EVER♡♡ Im so excited for the other 3 (and of course the true ending)
