2023 plans (mid-year update) (Patreon)

i write one of these every 6 months or so, and here we are in july again! i might mix it up next year by doing these more often since it's nice to give a big update like this… maybe once per quarter? who knows, gonna keep thinking about it.

anyway, here's the link to the plan from back in january. i like rereading them before diving into the update since it gives me a good look at where i was at and how far i've come...! which feels EXTRA FAR this time because i released so many new games, waaah!! my large projects have stalled though... so i'll talk about those first

TRICK COMES HOME (treat series)

for trick's birthday, i managed to finish the first WIP build for this chapter!! it's been tough to get this far... i probably say this every time i give a treat update, but i try to go slowly with them because i don't want to rush and make it not as good as it could be, but i also feel bad making people wait so long for it, and i don't want to spend another 3 years making this game...

SO I'M STILL SERIOUS when i say there will be another public release before the end of this year. but i will likely be splitting this chapter into 2 parts, because it's very long and there's a lot of extra content added to the earlier chapters (namely the alternate endings!)

splitting it up makes it feel more achievable to actually finish, which motivates me to work on it instead of being overwhelmed at how much is left. i'm trying to balance having fun making it while also getting it done in a timely manner... so thank you as always for your patience. the last 10-20% of any large game is the hardest part of development every time, so i think i just have to remind myself to relax so i can get it out when i want to :)

SYRUP 2: CANDY ALCHEMY RPG

i didn't touch this game AT ALL for the past 6 months! that's pretty incredible since in the past i had always been going back to work on some system or knock out a new part of the story... it's funny to call "no progress" a huge success, but it means i was able to stay focused on what i planned to :) so i'm very happy about this.

as for release date, still aiming for end of 2024! treat might push it back a while, especially since i don't want to complete 2 huge games right after one another. one big release is mental strain enough... anyway, i'll surely go back to working on this game at some point next year! (when i stop filling my schedule up with smaller projects hahahah)

THE NEXT STARRY FLOWERS COMIC

literally just reread this one last night and now i'm excited to get back to it... i had finished some of the lineart (for random panels that i liked) and started on the lettering, but i haven't touched this since i mentioned it last time. again, because i was focused on all those other projects.

but i find it hilarious that i ALWAYS release 18+ comics during november, and i'd like to keep up the tradition with this one... so i plan to blast on this in the latter half of october!

GAME JAMS

"no promises," i said... and then i went on to release jam games almost every month this year... i had a ton of fun, and i'm really glad all of those projects were well-received. in particular i'd like to add more chapters to sex advice succubus whenever i can find the time...!

i think i mentioned in a dev diary or something that i wanted to y*ri jam again this year (sorry as always that patreon makes me censor it), but my schedule is looking really packed around those months... i have done ENOUGH JAMS... it's time to rest.

there's one more ludum dare this year though, so i will be participating in that again with the same group as always, since it's just for a weekend :) JAMS ARE FUN!!! next year i will do them in a more balanced way so i don't feel like i've fallen so far behind on all the other stuff i'm doing.

ANOTHER PIECE OF CANDY

this is the biggest one right now, because i'm preparing to get the first volume printed. REAL BOOKS... WAAAHH!!!! i'm nervous about it, but i'm limiting the stock so i don't get too overwhelmed having to ship out the orders myself. i can always reprint more later, too...

i'm only worrying about it because i want them to be ready by the comic's anniversary (8/27) and i don't know how long books take since i have to wait for proofs to come in the mail and whatnot... exploring a lot of new territory with regards to merch since i actually have the time/energy for it! anyway, i'm trying to finish the pdf this month, but i need to draw a cover for it first, so that's my main priority.

there's another daily update event planned for the anniversary too! readers will get to vote on who will be added to the cast (out of 7 "applicants") so i've drawn comics of all of them auditioning for that spot. i really enjoy doing audience participation-type events, so i look forward to seeing who everyone will vote for <3

it was a long update this time...

i have too much going on!!!!!!! writing it all down like this helps me sort it out in my head too though, so whenever i'm feeling a bit tired and just know that i need to work on something, i don't have to think about what that something needs to be... yknow???? i guess i shouldn't work if i'm tired. but drawing is relaxing too... it feels good to finish things.......
