Riding the storm (Patreon)

You should have received an email recently about changes to the way the payment system works on Patreon. Apparently, it adds taxes and fees, and is causing many creators to lose significant patronage. I lost one patron so far, which accounts for 12% of my small group. Understandably, people are upset, but the internet tends to over react. Considering the value of what I’m doing my prices are still extremely cheap. I’m going to ride this out for the next couple months and see what the climate is like then. If I’m unable to grow in that time I may consider migrating to another platform or implementing a donation system on my homepage. It’d be a shame, as I feel like we’re growing something special with a sense of community, built around the subscription format and ability to make exclusive content. But who knows, maybe it would suit me better to just make everything public and allow one-time donations. Let me know your thoughts. As always, thank you for your continued patronage.
