Yayy! I love season 5, I love Matt Smiths doctor, I love Amy pond (Karen Gillan absolutely is a smoke show, she plays nebula in guardians of the galaxy) I love Rory (the nurse), but particularly I love the chemistry between them all. I think you will adjust to this doctor quickly. Personally I find Matt's portrayal to be silly like David Tennants but lighter, not as intense..... But only on the surface, as the story progresses and deals with darker plot points he manages to somehow convey the sense that he is an older version of the doctor, despite looking physically younger. Particularly he has these moments where he displays very good face acting that hints at the burden of his past weighing him down whilst maintaining a bright, chilled out demeanor on the surface. Perfect example is the bit where he casually stands there choosing a bow tie whilst simultaneously telling the aliens to "basically... Run" and he just gets better and better at that mix as he settles into the role and makes it his own........ Upon reflection I think Matt might be my favourite Doctor. I always hold a special place for 10 because that's the one that I first really connected with, but 11 was the one that got me completely and utterly hooked and obsessed with the show in a way that no others did, even though I like all the doctors.

2023-08-15 17:10:14 Absolutely brilliant premiere and a beginning of a great season (I might be biased, Matt Smith is my favourite Doctor by miles and miles). This being somewhat of a soft reboot, starting this time with both new Doctor and new Companion makes it a great jumping on point. Matt Smith manages to capture 'madman with a box' energy. Karen Gillian is great as Amy especially in that last scene giving into the wonder of TARDIS and dropping some of the defences build over the years. Random tidbit. That young actress playing young Amy - Caitlin Blackwood - is Karen's cousin. Karen recommended the casting based on the great family resemblance, but have only actually met Caitlin on set :D I am just happy that the girl also had some knack for line reading (some real anger there in a hospital scenes.

Cadence

This is one of my favorite DW series premiers. I hate change, and I typically don’t handle it well, so all the changes took time for me to get used to too, but I grew to love 11. Like you said, each actor typically makes their doctor their own; there are definitely aspects that I love about them all, but there are also some aspects I dislike about them sometimes, so it’s personally hard for me to choose an overall favorite doctor. From what I’ve seen, a lot of people love 10 and 11 more than the others- you’re more likely to get one (or both) of them as an answer if you ask someone who their favorite Doctor is. Like I’ve seen a few other people here mention- you’ve seen the actress playing Amy in GotG as Gamora’s sister Nebula, and you’ve seen the guy playing Jeff as Luther in The Umbrella Academy.

I was like you, very sad David had left. Even grumpy/belligerent -- and then Matt Smith burst onto the scene in this episode and I knew I was going to adore him.

So apparently for the fish fingers, they actually made a coconut sponge cake for Matt to eat with the custard. Actually sounds quite nice, but fish custard is definitely a no no from me lol. You've got some bangers to look forward to this season. Enjoy the ride!

Matt Smith and David Tennants Doctors are my top 2 of all of them, in that order lol and Amy Pond and Rose Tyler are my favorite companions, also in that order lol I can not wait for the storyline to unfold for you and I can't wait to be on the journey with you!!! man this episode is a fantastic start to this era. new doctor, new companion, new tardis, new screwdriver! amy is a really interesting companion for him because every companion we've had so far has run away with him after one day, and amy has pretty much known him her whole life, and even though they've really spent very little time together she's super attached, he's a fairy tale prince to her and she knows nothing about him but is clearly obsessed, and is starting her companion journey having already been deeply hurt by him abandoning her (and let's not forget they already established that she was pretty much abandoned by family for her whole childhood). there's a LOT to unpack with the relationship amy already has with the doctor and we're only one episode in. and i loveeee matt smith's doctor. i feel like he's the most "alien" doctor we've seen, he's goofy and silly and doesn't try to blend in or act human at all he's completely comfortable being alien. and after david tennant's doctor formed so many close human relationships we can already see this new doctor is more reserved in that manner and he's not trying to play human as much as the doctors in the past because he's always lost everyone. he's in the youngest body he's ever been in and he's having fun and being silly and childlike but is also so obviously ancient and alien that makes it sooo fun to watch. i can't WAIT i love this doctor companion combo ❤️

This episode and your reaction had me hyped!! I'm not sure if you noticed the longer running time as it still went by so quickly! Matt Smith made me love him in this episode and I was very sad about David Tennant leaving, but after watching this I was totally on board for Matt.

Finally got around to watching this, been a busy day. But I'm SO glad you enjoyed it. It's definitely ok to find Matt attractive lol. He is hot, I've had a crush on him for years. It's his personality more than anything else. 🔥 And he really is a FANTASTIC Doctor. Despite missing David, I can see you already opening up to him after just one episode and that's exactly how it was for me too. He came into this as a completely unknown actor and as the youngest Doctor ever at just 26. But wow what a gem they found with him. He's my favourite Doctor for sure and he just smashes it. I hope you'll grow to love him as much, if not more, than David. 🤞 And this Doctor is really flirty, even more than David's Doctor was. You've seen that already with how up close and personal he got with Amy and with Jeff lol. This Doctor reminds of me Captain Jack a bit in that way, he'll flirt with anyone, gender and species doesn't matter. 😂 They do get a new TARDIS interior and a new sonic screwdriver with every regeneration. Which I always look forward to as much as the new Doctor reveal. Right now we've just finished with the 13th Doctor and we're about to go to the 14th. No spoilers of course but we know who it is, the new Doctor is always revealed months before he starts, while the previous Doctor's episodes are still airing. But we still don't know what his TARDIS will be like though. That's rarely revealed beforehand. We have to wait to see that in the new Doctor's first episode. So in this episode here everyone saw this new TARDIS at the same time while watching which was cool. Amy is a great companion, not one of my favourites overall I must say. But I definitely like her. She's got a great personality and Karen is a fantastic actress. This show launched her career and got her the Marvel job. I'm sure you've already realized that this season's mystery is the crack in the wall and the "silence will fall" saying. As with every season before this one, what these things mean will become clear as the episodes progress. And yeah, I'm just happy that you enjoyed this episode. I can't wait for the next one. It's in my top 20 episodes of all time but I'm not sure how you'll feel about it lol. I look forward to it. 😊

Ah, I forgot that Luther Hargreeves makes an appearance as Jeff here and that's Nick's mom, not Charlie's, although, that might've been who you meant. I really like Matt as the Doctor. How much I like him as the Doctor will be tabled until you get further into his time as the Doctor. I remember when you found out on discord that Amy is Nebula from the MCU 🤣🤣🤣I saw her in a movie well before I started Doctor Who and didn't realize she was Nebula until I looked her up on IMDB and I was floored 🤣🤣🤣She's definitely hot, but I won't say where she places as a companion for me until you get further into her story 😉They certainly started s5 off with a bang!

Fun fact - this wasn’t Karen Gillan’s first appearance in Doctor Who as she played one of the soothsayers in the Fires of Pompeii episode. That same episode also of course features another prominent future character
