Yeah, the story of Peeta Mellark is a sad one, I won't say any more on that topic since you haven't seen part 2 yet. I remember the first time I read the rescue scene and having some allergies when he choked Katniss. The implications of that one scene are quite staggering. Alma Coin (played by the wonderful Julianne Moore, well, I definitely have thoughts about her, but I will save those until you've seen part 2. All I'll say about her is to let Haymitch have a little something, something 🤣🤣🤣 So, I don't know if you've seen The Mighty Ducks trilogy, but the avox (person with their tongues cut out) is played by the actor who played Fulton Reed in the those movies (Elden Henson). He may be showing up in something you'll watch next month ;) So the guy you recognized at the beginning of the movie is Mahershala Ali, who is wasted in this movie. Give this man a better part than this! Natalie Dormer (Margery Tyrell from GOT) is also wasted in this movie. Anyways, yeah, definitely the weakest of the trilogy. Book fans have wildly different opinions on the final book of the trilogy. Some love it, and others absolutely abhor it (that's right, 'hate' was not a strong enough word here). I'm somewhere in the middle. I'll be watching part 2 for the first time with you, so that'll be a somewhat new experience for me, but not really since I've already read the books

Yeah, having seen all the movies, I would say this is one is the weakest. It's definitely not my favorite. Also, Josh Hutcherson (who plays Peeta) did not lose weight for this. It was all CGI!

As one who's done both (books and movies) I'll be interested in your opinion of the last film.

The reason this movie is so lackluster is because they decided to turn the 3rd and final book into 2 movies... partly because they felt like if they made it into one movie they would have had to cut alot of it out for the run time but mostly it is because the movies were hits and they like money... which meant they had to add a bunch of unnecessary filler like that weirdly odd scene with the cat chasing a flashlights light, and them trying to contact President snow for literally 3 minutes, not to mention finick telling a very slow story between cuts of a rescue operation. (I like his voice too so I'm not actually complaining too much). I do see what you mean about the death in war outweighed the death from the games but they left out alot about how bad it was in districts. Like alot of families in district 10 11 and 12 were dying from starvation because of how the Capitol treated them. And they weren't allowed to leave their districts to hunt legally to feed their families, and if they got caught hunting or leaving their district they get killed or turned into slaves with no tongues. The games was really the least of the b.s. the districts went through. It's why the peeta giving bread to katniss was so important to her. Her family was about to starve to death that day and that bread saved their lives.

I'm not in the camp that thinks this one is weakest etc. Loved it just as much as the other movies.

Hi! So I requested this reaction because I read the books before seeing the last two movies and I had a pretty visceral reaction to the last movie. I'm excited to revisit it with Travis after all these years to see if my opinions have changed.
