2023-03-11 05:30:09 I love this movie so much. I like that I can watch it with my 70 something parents & my 10 year old son and we can all enjoy it. It reminds me of the classic family adventure movies from my childhood, like back to the future, stand by me etc.

I think people are too harsh on Aimee though. She didn’t only like him because he saved the day. It had been 7 years, she’d grown up, she was single handedly looking after an entire colony, she lost her partner recently, until he left Joel hadn’t really matured beyond 17, he had no responsibilities, he had an entire colony looking after him. He’s adorable and means well but he also never once asked Aimee how she was doing, she expressed a number of times, in every conversation how difficult it was looking after everyone, how tired she was and he brushed right over it to talk about how his own wishes. Aimee clearly likes him as a person, but he was basically a stranger when he showed up on her doorstep. It wasn’t him “saving the day” that made him attractive to her, it was simply time spent together, maybe a bit of trauma bonding, but mostly just getting to know each again. Even without the whole captain crab saga she would have developed feelings once she got to know the man he’d become. And the kiss was …. Well just a kiss really. Lol. But a well deserved kiss, and a “had to try it on for size before he leaves” kiss. Who knows what will happen, but Joel has grown up enough now to move on with his life and not hang onto an idea that’s pure fantasy and also to have a real relationship if he wants. Notice how their last conversation was the first time that he acknowledged that he saw all the work she was doing, the weight of the responsibility she bears. He finally grew up and developed some emotional maturity. ……. Well that was more of a thesis than I intended. 🤣 I just feel like I have to stand up for Aimee. She didn’t owe him a relationship or anything because he’s “nice” or because he made that journey. The heart wants what it wants….. or doesn’t.
