I enjoyed the movie. The singing is not as theatrical and they leaned more towards the gory and dreary parts of the show. It serves some parts well and some not as well, but I think it's a fine adaptation overall. It's harder to hide the twist in the film with close-ups and everything but it's still done well. The film shines in its cinematography, production design, star-studded cast, and orchestrations (imo).

Watching this reminds me of sets I used to build. Also never seen someone be able to sing with an Australian accent.

Thanks so much for leaving the subtitles on. The complex lyrics and overlapping can be hard to decipher. I wondered how you'd react to this Sondheim show, but John picked a great version to introduce it to you. I also feel the film version has its merits.
