You know what I like about this so far? The singing doesn't sound as processed/digitally altered as the singing in Glee. Just from this one episode, I can see why Olivia Rodrigo is so big now! I'm not really here for the drama. With shows like this, I'm always here for the music. I like that these characters actually seem like teenagers (unlike Glee, lol). I don't know the actual ages of the actors here (I'll check that out soon), but it definitely seems more authentic than a lot of shows with actors that are clearly adults playing teenagers. Anyways, I enjoyed the singing during this first episode!

Oh wow, that's why this sounds more authentic than Glee. 80% of the songs being performed live is great, although, I'm sure there's a bit of audio processing and editing done afterwards (it doesn't sound like a lot, though)

I’d agree with that. I think Glee got caught up in the heavy auto tune era and they were trying to sell iTunes downloads and such and took it a bit far sometimes lol

Oh yeah they have to edit them a bit I'm sure, but they definitely try to keep them as raw as possible. It's something the creators of the show are passionate about. And you really can hear the difference, I sometimes wish Glee wasn't so auto tuned because the cast really didn't need it.

Yeah, the autotune on Glee has always been my least favorite part of the musical aspect of the show. I mean, they're all really good to exceptional singers (I'm including the main cast and guest stars) that don't need auto tuning really (maybe just a smidge, though). I also checked the ages for HSMTMTS (God, even the acronym is a mouthful, lol) actors, and they seem to match up pretty well with the ages of the characters that they're playing, which is refreshing (it's also probably why there's only 10 episodes in the first season). It's nice having mostly teenagers playing teenagers for once, lol

Just watched it. First of all, you pronounced my name perfectly. So you don't need to worry about that. 🙂 And I'm really glad you enjoyed it. It's a strong pilot episode. But things really pick up after this, this show constantly goes in directions that you're not expecting. And also 80% of all the songs are performed completely live, which is what makes it very special. And that's probably why Olivia sounds so different here compared to her autotuned albums. And Olivia Rodrigo dated Joshua Bassett (who plays Ricky) for a while. They started dating during season 1 and then broke up during season two. And it was a bad breakup. It's widely believed that Olivia's songs Driver's License and Traitor are about him. And he's released some songs about her too. It's a whole thing. 😂🙈 But yeah, I can't wait to see what you think of the rest of this season and of the series. 😊
