So, this is very much a Christmas movie for my family. My mom and I are on the “it’s 100% a Christmas movie” side, but I just learned last week that my dads on the other side 😂.

So, personally, I would consider it a Christmas-adjacent movie, but my heart tells me it's a Christmas movie, lol! And yes, "Yippee Ki-Yai motherfucker!" indeed came from this movie

I only have a few facts about this movie- This was Alan Rickman’s first movie, and he hadn’t actually wanted to be a villain. (He’d done a few tv shows and TV movies according to IMDb, and he’d also done theater, but this was his first big movie). He improvised a few scenes, including most of the lines when asking for Mr. Takagi. Apparently they also added in the part where Hans and John meet face to face after hearing Rickman’s American accent. The man who played Karl (Alexander Godunov) was a Russian-American Ballet dancer. Apparently before this movie, Bruce Willis wasn’t an action star, and he wasn’t really their first choice for the role. (Even though this movie is iconic now) It’s probably the more popular bts fact about this movie, but for the last shot of Hans, they’d told Alan Rickman that they were going to drop him on the count of 3, only to drop him suddenly at 1 (or 2, idk 😂). So that look on his face when he’s falling is a real look of surprise and fear.

“Yippee-ki-yay, motherf*cker” is such an iconic line 😂. If you ever Google “top 20 movie villains of all time”, Hans Gruber is always on the list, and it’s easy to see why. I love that they quoted this movie in 9-1-1 (“it’s Christmas Theo, it’s a time for miracles” in 2x10- Merry Ex-Mas); Chimney’s love for classic action movies is amazing.

It is a Christmas movie for those of us who aren't huge Christmas nutters. A movie for those of us who enjoy something other than just family sentimental movies, because for some of us family isn't always the thing we love the most. Instead, we make our own families. Chosen families are bigger things, but still, Christmas can bring up odder memories than more fond memories, so I enjoy this movie on this holiday. Bruce Willis's Scar on his right shoulder is from surgery is due to complications from a broken arm when he was 17. "Sorry about your brains on the glass" hahaha One of my favourite lines from this movie is "Now I know what a TV dinner feels like." "Remember when you did that shit to Dumberdore" BRUTAL haha haha hahaha

Good Reaction there's more Die Hard movies 🙂

Rest in peace, Clarence Gilyard Jr. Gilyard plays Theo in this movie. Sadly, he just died on the 28th of November, a month short of his 67th birthday. It's very sad. Heidi
