Currently listening to this with you Travis and it's so good so far! Demi is so underrated!

I’m so happy you loved this album, I feel the same way as you in almost all of the songs. So just to start out, you’re not misgendering, Demi goes by She/They so she uses either one! I’m obsessed with the first 7 songs. I think Eat Me is my favorite of the up-tempo ones. It’s sooooo catchy. 29 is about Wilmer Valderama. (Fez from That 70’s Show). They started dating when Demi was 17 and they dated for 6 years actually. Wilmer has dated a ton of other people way younger than him, pretty similar to Leonardo DiCaprio. Such a good song sonically in addition to the lyrics. I agree. I’m 23, and I don’t think I would even date an 18 year old… we are at different life phases. But as you age, the amount of years between you becomes less of an issue. Demi mentioned that the meaning behind “cut it off” in Heaven is: There’s a bible verse, Matthew 5:30 that says “If your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off. It’s better to lose one part of your body than your entire body to hell” so it’s about masturbation and being shamed by religion for exploring your sexuality. Also I totally agree with comment about the filler songs. Like the opening of this album slaps so hard. Like the first 7 songs are all spectacular and so hard to pick a favorite but after Happy Ending, they all start to sound like filler. (Except Help Me, Feed, and 4ever for me, in my opinion). Dead Friends was originally written as a slow, emotional ballad. But Demi decided to turn it into a catchy pop punk song because the friends of hers that died loved pop punk music and she thought it would be a nice way to honor their memory— the song being the type of music they loved. I personally love Demi’s high notes but I definitely understand how some people don’t like them. I think her voice so powerful that she’s hitting notes that most listeners aren’t used to hearing often, so it almost shocks your system in a way and feels painful. The high note belts at the end of songs is basically Demi’s signature thing, which maybe is fun on singles when you only hear a few, but listening to all the songs back to back, I definitely understand that point of view that it’s kinda screechy at times. I think that Demi went all out on this album in terms of vocals. Like her last albums always have high notes, but the super super high ones are more selectively placed. Idk, maybe it’s a rock thing? I love “Help Me”. It’s so weird and different than the rest of the album. Dead Sara does that like rapping/talking/screaming thing that borders on heavy metal sounding which ads an interesting dynamic to the album. I love the message of Feed Me, super relatable. I agree, sonically it’s not super special or unique but I still love it. I’m a huge Demi Stan, I’ve listened to every single album multiple times. “Happy Ending” is my favorite Demi song ever. It’s so beautifully written and dynamic and emotional. It’s funny, Demi’s 2nd album, when she was on Disney, Here We Go Again, is pretty similar to this one. There are some bangers on there that are so damn ahead of its time, in the pop punk era. So Demi has done Pop Rock before, but this album is much more adult and honest in subject matter.

I agree, Demi can get a bit shrill when she continually goes for those sky-high notes! But she still sounds great, though
