You are 100% right on this. He wrote some descriptions on what each song was about. And it was definitely about his mental health journey. He even said that when he wrote one of the songs it was during a time where he finally felt scared enough about his mental health to seek out professional help. Diamonds itself is about dealing with suicidal thoughts. It’s really my favorite album and a true testament to his vulnerable and relatable lyricism.

OMG!!!!! Massive shout out to Julie - you absolute legend for requesting this! TRAVIS!!!!!!! I loved this reaction from you......and of course I also adore this album! You were right on the money with your interpretation of the themes that weave throughout Luke's songwriting. There's some great notes that Luke wrote on Apple Music/Spotify for each song which gives even more insight. As you picked up, I love his vulnerability and willingness to put his struggles on display. It is as you say, very comforting and reassuring to see someone else be prepared to literally "Face the Things We Turn Away From" and seek help (which he said he did with some counselling). The gift of the pandemic was this album as it was the first time in Luke's life that he was forced to stop and reflect and that can be kinda confronting especially when he started in the industry at such a young impressionable age. He has an awesome relationship with his family and a real bond with his Mum which is why he wrote the song for her - again kind of admitting that in the busyness of his career etc, he couldn't and didn't connect as much as he should have and now as an adult he appreciates the relationship more. He was really missing his family as the pandemic had forced a separation of a couple of years of not seeing them (he said the songwriting was like therapy and very cathartic). It's also beautiful that you could relate to so much of what was written Travis, and thank you too for your authenticity and willingness to share your experiences with us. There's so much depth to this album. I'm thrilled you loved it and that it impacted you in such a meaningful way. A definite no-skip album for me too. When/if you have a chance, there's a livestream recording that he did where Luke performs a few songs acoustically and does a Q and A with his producer and co-writer, Sammy Witte (who has also worked with Harry Styles) - it goes for approx 50 mins. Big hugs and thanks to you Travis ❤️❤️

I'll definitely check that stuff out. This is an album everyone should hear. Especially if they've had their own mental health struggles !

Such am amazing reaction! Luke is such an old soul and it really shows in this album. Your interpretation to me is spot on, and it is in line with what Luke has said about his album. He wrote this in 2020 during the lockdown and had time to reflect upon his life, having started out so young in the music industry and being in it for over 10 years at the time of its release. Around that time, he also sought therapy for the first time in his life and has said that writing this album was therapeutic for him, it was something he needed to get off his chest and is now in a much better mental state as a result. I love this album so much, it is a non-skip for me and I can relate to it a great deal. Albums this intensely personal, introspective and autobiographical are rare to come by these days, especially when the artist also has such musical talent and an angelic voice. I am so glad you loved it too! 😊

After listening to this I still believe he is telling his story from being in a bad place and starting to come back from it.

Hey Travis! I was beyond happy to see you react to WFTTWTAF - my absolute favourite album ever!! I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the appreciation & love you show Luke - I think he is so underrated & people (including 5sos fans) really don't appreciate him & give him the love he deserves. I personally think he has the best male voice out there!! This album was so personal for him but I feel like we can all relate - that's what a great songwriter can do. Everything about this album is perfect to me - my faves are Slip Away, Place In Me, Diamonds, Comedown & Mum...but I love them all!! Fun Fact - as well as writing exceptional, thought provoking & deep lyrics & singing beautifully, he also played all the instruments!! I'm just thankful & happy that Luke got the help he needed & is doing so well now! He has a live recording of 4 songs & an interview with the producer which is so endearing & sweet (Luke was so nervous by himself without his best mates there!) Plus the songs sound even better live!! You soon realise that as amazing as Luke & 5SOS are in their albums - they are even better live!! I can't wait to see you discover more 5SOS & everything Luke Hemmings!! 😊❤️

Debbie

He did!! He is super talented!! So those drums & guitars you loved in Mum...all Luke!!

Debbie

Haha 😂 He is definitely very lovable!! How can 1 guy have so much talent, be so sweet & be so good looking??!! ❤️

You should check out his live versions of his songs. They are so amazing! Especially Place In Me, Motion and Diamonds!
