You're such a softy, Trav, heart on the sleeve and all that. It's what makes watching these with you so interesting. Your instincts are correct, btw. Payment will be due.

I did love each of these movies when they came out and Jen acted in them. She is a really beautiful woman and a talented actress. She is a bisexuals dream. <3

That is indeed Lenny Kravitz! And, oof, poor Rue! They really get you with that one. You're so happy that they found each other during this terrible time, but, at the same time, you know it can't last. But you hope that it can. I completely agree with you, though, Travis about now it would be even sadder if Katniss was the one to kill Rue. So glad that they didn't go down that route! Cinna (Lenny Kravitz) is one of my favorite characters. When I first saw the trailer for this movie, I was like, Lenny Kravitz, really? But he nailed this part! Haymitch is a favorite of mine, as well. I think they could have done a better job with his character in the movie, though. The books dive into his character more, but, for the short time frame of this movie, they did a good job. So, before this hunger games (the 74th in-world), Haymitch is the only victor from District 12. He's been mentoring tributes for years and has gone into a deep spiral watching them die every year (all this is in the first book, they just didn't have time to put that in the movie). Katniss and Peeta are the first tributes that he sees potential in (for different reasons). So, it's really not surprising why he is the way he is in the beginning of the movie/book. In fact, he's even worse in the first book, if you can imagine. This whole system they have in place to get these kids to murder each other is so messed up, though! And the mind games don't start with the "games." They start before the reaping (when they choose the tributes). Trading tickets with your name on it for food and goods is such a repressive way to control people! Then, the dread of having to wait with everyone you know to hear, or not hear, your name called in front of everyone, all while the emcee (Effie is the character's name, the one you called Lady Gaga; it's actually Elizabeth Banks, if you didn't recognize her) is being annoyingly cheerful about something so morose. Then, after your chosen as tribute, they literally fatten you up with great food, make you over like a doll, and parade in front of the world as if you're commodities, not people! The first book actually shows even more of the decadence of the capital. I don't know if you know your world history or not, but, at the height of their power, the rich, powerful, and influential people in the Roman Empire would hold these elaborate parties/feasts where they would eat enormous amounts of food, induce vomiting (or got number 2), then get more food, and continue to repeat that process until they can't do it anymore. Well, the people in the capital do the same thing, only they drink a particular concoction to induce vomiting. This absolutely shocks Katniss and Peeta in the first book. Up until they saw that scene, they were enjoying themselves, while feeling a little iffy about the whole situation. After seeing that whole scene, they couldn't eat another bite! I don't blame them. This is definitely a good movie, but I definitely enjoyed the book(s) better. I think the first movie is the best of the series, while the second book is the best amongst the books. I think, as a whole, I enjoy books better than movie adaptations because the movies just can't dig in as deep as the movies. There are exceptions for me, though, such as the Lord of the Rings, which, in my opinion, are way better movies than books. This is even more impressive considering the fact that many believed it to be impossible to properly adapt the Lord of the Rings to the big screen! Anyway, I've basically written a whole novel here, so I'll be merciful and wish you safe travels while you're on the road

I really really hope you watch the rest!

Even more than that! He won the 2nd Quarter Quell (50th Hunger Games), and that Quell's twist was that the Games had twice as many tributes. Haymitch was the last survivor of 48 children. And then had to spend the rest of his life chaperoning children to their deaths... trauma is handled so well in this series
