Omg j saw this movie about a year ago for the first time and it was literally insane. So overstimulating but cool to watch

Wow, didn't expect this one so soon. I can't wait to see your reaction.

This is probably one of my favorite musicals. It probably took me a couple watches to get the story too; it took 2 to realize that the pitch for the play is just the plot of the movie (including the “and in the end should someone die?” line). I can see how the play/movie part is confusing. My sister had to tell her friend and I that Satine was dying of Tuberculosis, since they never call it that in the movie. If you have a specific question I could probably clarify if you need.

I saw this notification getting back from a friends house, so naturally I decided to stay up until 1 in the morning to watch it. I love seeing your reactions 💙.

This movie is so amazing. My entire family has been obsessed with it since it came out in theaters. I think watching your reaction to it is the first time I've ever considered that this could be confusing. The movie plot is them coming up with the story for the play they want to put on. The prostitute who wants be an actress and have fame and security from it was initially supposed to seduce the Duke to help her get all of that for her and her club. She mistakes Christian for the Duke and immediately falls in love with him and finds out that he isn't the Duke but the new writer of the play she's supposed to be staring in. To save face she and the rest of the writers and producers have to come up with the actual story for said play on the spot and from then on they have to go with it to keep it from becoming a lie... all while using the story to mirror their real lives and basically talk in code around the Duke so they can sneak around together. The Duke starts to catch on and demands that she stays with him (and change the ending to her with the maharaja) by the end because he has a small penis and can't handle rejection. By the time she finds out she's dying from consumption she realizes the only thing to do is save Christians life and lie about her feelings and he uses opening night to basically throw it in her face and accidentally shows up on stage during a scene they had to change but also had mirrored their current situation. By that time everyone in the play caught on to what was going on and improvised back to the original ending so they could get back together. And she dies and he writes their story.

Elton had to approve the song for Ewan,“He said, ‘Oh, my God, he’s a real singer!'”

Suzy Differ

She was dying of consumption which is Tuberculosis.

I read that it took two and a half years to secure the rights for all the borrowed songs. I have loved it since my first viewing, and loved your reaction, Travis. It also gave me several ideas for other films to suggest.

Consumption is tuberculosis: and it's an infectious bacterial disease that mainly affects the lungs. Also Baz is one of my favourite all time directors. You should watch some more of his stuff. It's always zany in the best ways. Also they didn't have a play so basically he is just writing a play that goes along with his real life. So anything in the play matches what is happening in the movie. It's just a lot of symbolism. Just switch out character names.

Def watch strictly ballroom to see what kind of director bay lurhmann is. And give moulin rouge a rewatch a while later lol. I like surreal things
