They don't go into Voldemort's backstory at all in the movies, but it's not necessary to enjoy them. In the books, they explain things. Voldemort's mother, Merope, was a pureblood, a descendent of Salazar Slytherin. All the pureblood inbreeding had made most of the family crazy and they lived in poverty and squalor. Merope fell in love with Voldemort's father. She fed him love potions and bewitched him. Eventually, she figured he must've fallen in love with her for real, so she stopped giving him the potions, and he ran off like a bat out of hell. Voldemort's name is from his father who was also Tom Riddle. The kid who said, "Auror?" Is Dean Thomas. He's a half-blood. His father was a wizard, but his mother didn't know. Dean was raised by his mother. When he and the other muggle borns are being persecuted, Dean has to go on the run because he can't prove his father was a wizard. Someone's already mentioned the fate of Neville's parents, but there's a scene in the book where the trio run into Neville and his grandmother at St. Mungo's, the wizard hospital. Neville's mother hands her son a gum wrapper. His grandmother tells him to throw it away, but he keeps it. Then Neville sees them watching. That scene where Dumbledore grabs Harry is what made me hate Gambon's performance. It even says in the book that Dumbledore CALMLY asks him if he put his name into the goblet. The frustration he displays after Henry finds the pensieve is also not characteristic of Dumbledore either. As the movies go on, the adult language increases. I was really hoping for F-bombs in the last movie because they're in the book, though it's just written as "effing" or something similar. While Maggie Smith was filming these movies, she was diagnosed with breast cancer. She was having treatments and continued filming. I don't think it's mentioned anywhere in the movies, both Hagrid and Madam Maxine are half giants. The entire poem from the egg was left out. In the book, it strongly implies that the hostages will be killed if the hour time limit's exceeded. Since I became a parent watching Cedric's father wail over his son rips my heart out even more and makes me cry every single time. The bottomless grief of a parent who's lost a child. Barty Crouch broke his son out of prison. His mother was very sick and dying, so she agreed to sacrifice herself. They went to visit their son in Azakaban. His mother went in, and Barty Crouch jr came out. They didn't notice the switch because dementors have no sense of sight. Again, sorry for the novel.
