I agree with you about Haley she knew what she signed up for. It's not like hotch was a teacher or something and then after they got married he decided to become a FBI agent, he was an FBI agent when they met or at least before they got married. And I always thought the same thing about kids and scary movies and stuff but I remember watching an interview once and they said how they make the scenes with the kids less scary and stuff so it doesn't traumatize them

Hotch and Hailey met in highschool, she did not exactly know what she signed up for, how could she. it's one thing to know your spouse is working in law enforcement and is home at 5pm every day but it's a whole other thing when your spouse travels through the country week after week to run towards danger instead of, what most people would do, away from it and with it missing most of his child's developments and family life at home. it must be scary as hell when there's a call at 5 in the morning, all you hear is terrorism and your spouse runs out into danger and you don't know if your child will ever see their father again. especially when your spouse promised to quit the job but ultimately doesn't. everyone needs to cut Hailey some slack, she's scared, she's a mother, at this point she was basically a single parent before she even left Hotch, she has every right to be angry.

This episode, and show in general, really highlights how misogynistic the times were back in the day.. - I personally think Elle was written badly and never had the opportunity to be loved by the public bc they painted her as "crazy, hysteric and cold". When in fact, the had a really empowering character in their hand, and she suffered a really traumatic experience, but the team dropped her. IMO the team treated her badly, Hotch and Gideon dropped her, when they're her superiors. And Morgan was supposed to be friend with her, went on vacation with her, and suddenly he's not involved in her having a mental breakdown on a case.. And then she was painted as the crazy lady that we can't understand and don't want to help.. - JJ really wasn't that important to the team til end of season 1. And even the characters made her believe she wasn't like them. Morgan treated her different but in a bad way. He protects Reid bc he's young and doesn't have lots of field experience. But somehow when JJ was there when Reid was kidnapped.. it was all her fault. Morgan was so condescending to her.. When in fact the story showed us that Reid was the one to run away.. But he jumped to the conclusion that JJ was unexperienced and that Reid was this poor baby in need to be saved... when they're literally the same age. - I remember when Penelope messed up and Gideon treated her like shit bc of it. Yes, she did a mistake. But he was always way more easy on Reid than he ever was with Garcia. - Emily had to work her ass off and prove herself to be considered part of the team. And Reid was awful to her for a few episodes just bc he was in a bad mood and needed to take it out on someone. She literally had to quit and deny Strauss to show that she was worth being part of this team. - Hailey is now painted as the bad guy bc she wants a better life for her son. I love Hotch, but he's been absent for a long time now and it's on him. He's unaware of the situation, and once again chooses his job over his family. Which can be honorable, bc he saves lives, but Hailey's feelings are very valid! She's been feeling horrible for years now, and Hotch holding her hostage with that "you know what this man is doing and you're stopping me from saving lives"... it's crazy. She's written to be the bad guy when I literally understand her. She's married a loving man, and decided to have a child with him. Now a few years later, he's never home and when he is, it's followed with phone calls, threats from criminals, her not feeling safe, and Hotch's head being at work all the time. She has the right to chose a good life for her son. And Hotch promised her he'll go with her bc he values his family.. but then he backed out bc work is too important. Fair enough. But it was proven that you can't do both. So let the girl be. - and now Strauss... I, of course, hate her lol. But some things are a bit iffy about how Morgan treats her.. Obviously it comes from his natural sexist personality.. But him looking at her and saying "well someone really hates women".. really rubbed me the WRONG way.. I'm pretty much sure he wouldn't be THAT disrespectful to a man. (although we've seen he has a problem with authority anyway.. even with Hotch or Gideon..) Emily once said that Hotch treats men and women differently and he agreed. And I would gladly add Morgan and Gideon to this team tbh... Thankfully it gets better, but those early seasons are really making me feel weird about most of the men in this team and the writers in general.
