The MOST awful month, of course, is February. THIS IS AN INCONTROVERTIBLE FACT; NO DEBATE PERMITTED.

I'm starting work on a new story for late winter, but there could be a bit of a break while I get briefly sidetracked by some audio silliness which I'll certainly share when it's all done. Let's just say a few of the Knifepoint Horror vocal all-stars are doing me a great favor by enduring my sense of humor.

Someone has alerted me to the fact that Tony Rivas' adaptation of "Staircase" has actually been online for a while, d'oh! Here's the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bYMnGHmMTjY   As always, black and white RULES. (You gotta love that still frame that first greets you. Awesome choice.)

I'm eager to hear if anyone caught some horror in 2019 that stuck with them, be it of the film, book, or podcast variety. For a guy who writes this kind of thing I'm stunningly out of the loop with what's going on in the genre, but I did see a few movies that lingered in my mind:

Ari Aster, director of "Hereditary," put another good hurtin' on my brain with "Midsommar"...

I was thoroughly creeped out by some of the goings-on in Ana Asensio's "Most Beautiful Island"...

I finally caught up with the Nicholas Roeg classic "Don't Look Now"...

The Panos Cosmatos flick "Mandy," with Nicholas Cage, had some memorable visual and atmospheric elements that made me seek out "Beyond the Black Rainbow" too...

And Bill Gunn's low-budget but thoroughly inspired "Ganja and Hess" from 1973 smacked me around with several moments of genius.

Even the original "Black Christmas," directed by Bob Clark of "Porky's" and "A Christmas Story" fame, was touched with occasional dark and eerily quiet glory.

OK, back to work! Oh, I just know you'll enjoy my story about a homicidal ottoman!

Don’t Look Now is awesome, and if you hadn’t mentioned it in your list I would have recommended it, mostly for that line where Laura is asked if she’s a Christian and she responds, “I’m kind to animals and children.” I think about that line almost every day.
