Recently I put together a reading of a classic horror story called "August Heat" (see YouTube, username Winterthurn). I had never narrated someone else's story before, and I found it tricky for the simple reason that I had to figure out how to play a character I hadn't written myself. I went back and forth on how to voice the villainous sculptor, and finally picked one way of a possible three and just decided to roll with it.

Whether I made the right call, who knows, but what was revealed to me in the process was how potentially interesting it can be to narrate someone else's tale. I have always aspired to do an unabridged free recording of Dracula, but good Lord,  I now realize it would take me forever to simply decide on an effective way to play all those characters. So in the coming year I may fool around instead with narrations of some very short tales to keep my feet wet.

If anyone's got a podcast that needs a little voice acting, or the narrating of a story that rolls in the under-10-minute range, let me know. Time is tight but sometimes I just feel all thespian-y.
