Quick Painterly Sketch (Patreon)

I actually find the act of painting to be pretty soothing. It's a little surprising I don't indulge in it enough or practice it enough. But it's one of the methods of creating art that came fairly natural to me once it was on a pen. It took a while before I could come to grips with retaining strong edges, and years of working on coloring pen and ink comics have given me new tools to work with.

Still, I suppose I avoid using painterly colors or finishes because something in my head tells me it's not done. But the art can be more engrossing than a paint by numbers coloring book some color pages can feel like. Maybe it's because it can feel so effortless, I don't feel like I've put enough work into a piece.

I very rarely use this kind of painting for commission work, let alone for comics. But it's something that I might want to explore in the future.
