I’d been reading quite a bit of One-Punch Man lately. It’s one of my favorite mangas, and quite poppular so I don’t think I need to explain it too much. But one of my favorite things about ONE is how he has this sense of humor, fun, but a real eye for truly horrific characters. I think he gets that across in the later arcs of the story, better than the first stuff. Like a lot of webcomic creators, he started with a pretty simple and even humorous premise. But then he starts showing his true colors as a madman. And to One-Punch Man’s credit, I think the comic and premise still hold up as it moves into darker plotlines.

I digress. There’s a cool demon lady here. I was thinking of One-Punch Man because I wanted to try something exaggerated like the way the artist for the Shonen Jump Manga Version drew the monster “Monster Princess Super S.” You can probably google her, she’s not safe for work. The way Yusuke Murata can translate ONE’s humor and strangeness into these extreme characters, was a perfect match of talents. I wanted to try my hand at something that extreme.

You can see how my design changed a bit from the sketch stage to the final art. I didn’t really have an idea when I started, except I wanted to go for exagerated curves and a dangerous look. It started as a lady with a sword but then I figured on just taking it up a few notches. And eventually I just threw on horns and a tentacle arm. However I wanted to make sure the design still worked. So I held off on going much crazier than you see here.

(Hey folks, I’m going to send a mass message to everyone, I had a really bad time with my computer breaking this weekend. And during a global outbreak, that sure isn’t a lot of fun. Thank you for supporting me. I hope we get through all this.)
