I was particularly happy with this panel, though it might not technically be my best and of course it's a bad moment for Cassiopeia.


But I wanted to share a closeup of it cause I think it's a good example of something I've been trying lately. Traditionally, regular inking and even digital inking is done OVER the pencils. What I'm trying to experiment is with drawing UNDER the pencil layer. Clearly this is impossible in physical media but with digital it's been an interesting change of perspective.


What advantages this allows me is that I can get a better sense of when I'm drawing much bigger or smaller than I had planned to. This isn't as big a problem when you're zoomed out and can see the whole picture. But I kinda keep to my bad habits, and like the control of zooming right up to the tiniest bits and getting lots of control over the little lines. With the Red Pencil lines over the ink, I can keep the roadmap I wanted to draw on, in sight.


It's been pretty handy! I wonder if anyone else does it...
