For a little while I considered doing a story about people getting fit and healthy but Anime beat me to it with the (actually really charming) sexy show "How Heavy are the Dumbbells you Lift?" It's surprisingly cute. It's also awkward in that way that it's all anime high school characters, so keep that in mind. It doesn't shy away from drawing sexy figures at all. BUT it's genuinely about characters trying to better themselves through fitness and self care. Everyone is supportive. It isn't really dramatic. It's a comfy show about bettering yourself and it's educational by sharing real fitness techniques.

I thought about doing something similar at one point, with how I like drawing pretty and fit girls. But I didn't really know enough about drawing muscles, let alone working out, to be the best at it. At best, I enjoyed drawing Colette working out and taking care of herself as a way of explaining how she has that idealized figure. A lot of fictional characters, drawn or otherwise, just have these amazing desirable bodies despite of a lifestyle that wouldn't support it.

It's also good to see people that are into fitness, not as these hyper competitive "meat-head" caricatures. A lot of people in the world of fitness are there to support each other. I would like to get that across, especially through Rosemary who could be teasing a little but is ultimately good at reading people and getting them fired up.

You guys might recognize the character at the top right, that's my friend Weirdseal's character Odessa. There's a sort of loose canon between these characters and maybe someday there'll be a single place to look them all up. But for now, she's one of Rosemary's friends and favorite clients. She's definitely not the fastest at running but she tries hard!

Good observation. I wouldn't describe most of the trainer's I know as 'laid back', exactly - their whole job is convincing lazy people like me to keep pushing when we'd rather not - but I've only ever met one who even came close to the super-competitive stereotype. ...Now I guess I'd better make good on that New Year's resolution and hit the gym this evening, haha

Another series (though manga, rather than anime, who knows if it'll get adapted) that you might like is "Plus Size Elf." The premise is that a series of supernatural monster women (elves, cyclopses, ogres, werewolves, plant women, dragon gals, etc) have come to our world to try out our vices, but can't go home because their new weights have thrown off the balance limit necessary to go home (they must have the same mass they had when they came). To help them go home, the main elf girl (the titular "plus-size Elf") starts mooching off a fitness assistant who tries to get her to both eat healthy and do exercises ncessary to keeping her in shape (like Dumbbells, the fitness and nutritional advice is sound). The keyword being "tries." The author is very much into larger women, both chubby and toned, and (unlike Dumbbell) many a lampshade is hung on how futile it is for the main boy to get the girls to live healthy enough to go home, or just maintain a theoretically ideal lifestyle. Though, there is no shaming (again, lots of fanservice for all kinds), there is emphasis on trying to live healthy. Try it out, you might like it.
