Something I've never really done much myself was drawing "animal pals" in my comics. Well... okay I mean I guess I did do an entire webcomic based on a talking questioning duck. I was just thinking about some other features in manga and comics and cartoons, and the one walking talking animal companion is a common feature.

And it makes a lot of sense to have one, from a visual stand point. A good animal friend will come with their own built in humor and charm. You can get a lot of mileage out of the traits of said animal. But for comics, you can play with huge differences in character size. This helps the visuals of a comic book a lot, when there's a lot of body diversity.

I gave these guys some mechanical bits to better fit in with a story like Gunmetal. I know there are some places where an animal friend wouldn't fit, but in fantasy and science fiction, we've gotten better at accepting animal companions in even serious situations. I mean, people said they felt sad when Rocket Raccoon had to... are Infinity War spoilers okay already?
